I'd say he is bsing about the trans... it's prolly shot...

That being said that color combo is gorgeous.... I'd buy it just because of that.

I would be all over that car! Love that color combo and it only needs a trans and drivers seat power track. I bet $1400 takes it. Just let him know that the issue is a bad trans and his part wont fix it. Can even tell him to come here and we will confirm it. A 3rd gear shudder is bad in a Ford AOD, means it is ready for a rebuild.

IF it actually HAS an issue, it's a little high priced.

But..there stands a pretty good chance that a Mercron 5 swap would solve that problem.(hate to admit that outloud)

He's probably gotten it diagnosed and symptoms point to the EPC.

One sniff of the dipstick would tell if it's got Mercron V or Mercron III.

G'man, COME OVER.. drive your car down and we'll take mine and go walk around it and smell it's dipstick...haha
 
I was about to say, that he prolly has the dreaded 3-4 gear converter shudder. The original owner prolly never changed the trans fluid. Plus it's in texas, so heat is definately an issue. Does look real nice tho.

If you don't have the money to take the car to a mechanic for a simple fix, I wonder what else you've passed up fixing on the car because it was "fine"? Have you ever even changed the oil? Well, not you, personally. I doubt you would ever be able to find the "710" cap.

Basically, you need to jack up the car, drop the Transmission pan, and
replace. Easier said than done, I know :)

Tell him he needs a complete trans. rebuild and it's $200 for a seat track. The heat doesn't work and the dent is gonna cost $3-400 to repair. I'll bet that the neon, headlights, and the other seat track is messed up. Offer him $1000. A nice color combo doesn't make up for 157k miles. I might be too cheap. lol
 
like XLR said a Mercron 5 swap should fix the problem but you need to drive it to feel the problem yourself
