cup holder/ ashtray

Ive gotten it out and put the lid back together (cupholder) with gorrilla glues super glue (holds great) but its seeming as if its springing backwards. when you push down the cup holder it springs open (normal) but the cupholder lid i have to pull open and it springs shut!! (as well as to far shut)! Any ideas and or opinions?

Sounds like the spring is on backwards but if it's working and you don't use it often, I would leave it as is. I wished they would spring open and shut. I only use mine for pennies and the ashtray for silver change. Since you painted them, could the doors be in the wrong places? I have one out in the garage somewhere that has one good door on it but I don't remember which one was good.

The lids were not completely off the cupholder lid was broken on the spring loaded rotator side. so it was like movin all over but still connected in one spot. i didnt fudge around with the spring but whos to say the loopy guy before me didnt... ill have to take pics for referance

I can't tell what it is but something is either on the wrong side or has been put on backwards. The one that I have out now just so happens to not have that door on. It only has the ashtray door on. The spring for the cup holder and I think the gearing for that door is also broke. I could look down into mine that is inside my car but it would still be hard to tell whats not right with yours doing the opposite of what it should be doing.It's almost like the spring is pulling in the wrong direction.

weeeeeeell... after i thunk of chuckin it, took it apart to check my original thought......... the spring WAS backwards!!! this guy musta been doosh bigalo ill tell ya... from redoin this interior i came across soo many fudge ups with broken stuff. oh well.. at least THIS is straightend out now
