Cowl Rivet Removal

Anyone know how to remove the tricky cowl rivet? Or, are they designed to break when removed?
 
Plastic bits? Just push down the center bit in it and then pull up, you may need a flat blade screwdriver if you nails are very short.
 
Don't break them. They are $14/ea here at the stealership.
 
I wonder how much shipping to Canada is..

You can something very similar for something like a $1.80 for four at Lowe's in the specialty fasteners. They are called 1/4" Vinyl Rivets there. I used those on my car when I found that the dealership had 1) lost 5 or 6 fasteners from the cowls covering the cabin air filter, etc.; and 2) lost the engine cowl and all it's fasteners.
