The door stopped springing open when I push the release button. It looks like the little spring came out of position. Has anyone else had this problem and if so how do you fix it. The car is a 98 mark. HELP!

Well those of us with Gen I's tend to make it so the damn thing doesn't pop up. The latch can wear out. LOL ... not sure on a Gen II but I'm guessing that you can simply turn the spring.

the end of the spring has a straight section to hold the lid open, mine broke off

I eventually got a new hinge and spring, you will probably need to do the same

Yeah mine has broke also. I think it was the spring end that broke. I looked at it once and thought it was not repairable. Needs a new part. I first thought the same thing as you but with the door removed I noticed the broken end.

majorly common problem, the spring snapped, its now stuck on the hinge and in 2 pieces, replace it, only option, i have some too!! $20 bucks shipped you wont find them new.

don't say wont when you really mean won't want to pay, my mom bought me a new one for my birthday a few years ago... I was shocked when I found out what she paid for it

It was something like $80

I have repaired the mounting holes were the hinge screws into the top of the door with epoxy, after it cures helps the screws tighten up better.
My spring is not broken, but it helps with the door not sliding around and becoming un latched when you dont want it to.

How do I know if the spring is broken? There dosnt seem to be any damage to the under side of the console lid. I didnt notice two pieces of spring.
