This would be my first car so I'm fairly excited. I've been looking at the LS V8 Sport, Volvo S60 2.4T or T5, Audi S4 and Audi A6 preferably the 4.2 or 2.7/2.8. All of the afore mentioned vehicles except the Lincoln have Turbos which is a knock on the LS, but it has more power stock except for the 4.2L A6. As with forums I understand why people join them, to vent and find solutions so your negative comments don't put me off since the other cars have issues too, also I'm a member of several other forums(Mac and etc.). Right now I occassioally drive my dad's old 97 Explorer XLT with a V8, and like it, although we're having issues with the sway bar, to me it seems to have great handling. I also occassionally drive my mom's old Camry (notice a trend with my parents? ). The one LS I've found that I really like is an 01 Sport Package 82,600 mile, black, Alpine stereo, heated seats for $9997.(Dropped from $10996). Another LS I'm looking at isnt sport? is an 01 and has 93,000 miles on sale for $9995.My dream first car is an Audi RS6 but if I could have my choice from the list I'd pick the S4, except they're either too expensive or have too many miles. As for Lincoln and Volvo they're both Ford products so I doubt there are many differences (I'm sure Volvo builds Volvo but they may share platforms). With the A6 its too hard to find what I want.

Thanks for any input.

now for some picutes, LS Sport

Umm def go with the 01 V8 sport with 82,000 miles on it. I mean its only 2 more dollars for 10,000 less miles. PLUS, thats a big plus, the 'other LS' with the 90 some thousand miles on it looks very sketchy. By sketchy I mean, the rims are on the wrong generation, the front bumper is missing the tow hook access panel, plus theres a lot of moisture in that headlight. Since its missing that access panel thats almost a dead give away for an accident but I could be wrong. My advice is look under the hood of it and check it out very thoroughly. Run the vin. Test drive it atleast twice and give it hell. Of course you probably know the routine.

Thanks for the response, and thanks for pointing out the thing about the other LS. To be honest the only reason why I liked it in the first place was the chrome rims, which I do realize have been lifted from an 03+ LS. I wasn't really planning on buying that one anyways.

Care to elaborte? I'm fairly new to this so I'm not sure...
The 82K mile LS is from a local Ford dealer so I'm hoping it will check out.

i bought mine at 75,000 miles roughly 8 months ago. test drove it 20-30 miles afterwards put a down payment of 100 dollars because these cars are very rarely forsale. anyways 5 days later after going back to nc from fl and comin back. i pay for the car and i feel it stumbling/hesitating. most likely is the valve body. but i'm not the type of person to buy somethin and go back and cry and try and get someone else to pay for it.

Me, I would look for something else, like the volvo. LS is nice but be prepared for some stuff that may be expensive, granted every car has problems. I would even try to find another one w/ lower mileage, but that is just me also, oh and one w/ a warranty possibly.

I would lean toward the S4 too. I just traded in my wifes 350+ HP T5 for a 07 Explorer for space reasons. The T5 is alo a VERY nice car with TONS of power. The turbo car with just a computer reprogram, intake and exhaust are crazy fast. Have you looked at the Evo's or WRX?

What's your price range? I doubt you will find a S4 or T5 to match your $10K Lincoln...

just get the LS :hump:

OK then!

See if the dealer will let you pull the coils to check for oil. If not, take it to a mechanic to check, along with the other standard stuff. Or get one of those mobile used car inspection things to do it. If the dealer doesn't let you do any of those, get the :q out of there and go buy that Eliot_Ness' tuned S4! :D

Looks like you are in the DC metro area.
I am as well. If you REALLY are considering one of the LS's, and need someone really familiar with them, let me know, and I can meet you and help you go over various aspects of the car. Between the two LS's I've owned, I have about 7 years and 150k LS miles under my belt.

I agree..... but the s4 is gone and I wouldnt have trusted it either the paint was sweet it had the pearl white but I was amazed at the price my self and 99k is high for buying a car as is at 10k dollars with a tune or what ever, who knows how beat up it actually was?.

This is a great Audi forum: http://www.audiforums.com/. It seems like belts are the major issue with them.

I was highly considering trading in the LS for an A6 three or four months ago but not having a warranty, trade-in, and insurance jump, it just wasnt a good investment.
I'll just keep my paid-off LS and run it till it dies. Maybe by then I can get a brand-new Audi! :)

Yea and a ls w/ 80K is better? Some cases yes, but people today do not give two poops about cars. Specially if they were once leases, they just kept it somewhat clean and said the heck w/ the rest.

Biggest mistake you can do is narrow your choices right off the bat, figure out what you want to spend or get a loan for and than check out what is out there. I jumped right in a couple of cars w/out thinking of other possibilities until it was too late and I kicked myself for a long time.

Well my cap is about $10K. I've picked cars based on what I like and my limitations, I can't get an SUV or Coupe or Convertable. I may just wait a little longer and lease something nice, hopefully a S60 R or Infiniti G.
I'd really like a BMW(funnest vehicles for me to drive).

thanks for the help.

Personally, first car and all, I'd go Stang. You'll get more car for the buck and way fewer problems. Unless they have been modded and rodded to death they are bullet proof.
My wife and I were going to get one, then she said those three magic words... "I'm pregnant again" so I said 'Uh Oh... better get a four door!"

I thought about one, but my father said no due to higher insurance premiums.

I found another LS a 2000, silver V8 Sport with a little over 72K miles on it.

The only S4 I've found was a '00 with under 68K miles in pearl white for 12,995 but it hasnt been sold for months and the interior is black.....or an all black '00 with under 99K miles for 10,999.

my options arent many, thanks for your input.

Dont jump on the first one you see. Hang around for a month or so. I have seen some fine LSs go for a dam good price on here, ebay, and a few other sites.

I agree, if that LS Sport w/ 82k is still around then look more into it and you could probably get it for less. If it has 82k most likely it might have already had the COP problem. Mine came around 60k and i know others have experienced it around the same time. Its good you know all the common problems with these cars as you have the advantage of checking it out before you buy it. Good car shopping skills.

For comparision...I just bought a 2000 LS v8 with 60k miles for $10,000. It doesn't have the sport package. I think you'll get a bit of a discount on the older model but they can be harder to find.
