My son and I bought a 89 LX Mustang this weekend to do a little drag racing. Whats wrong with that you say? Its got a K member setup to run a small block chevy. I've got a 434 cu in small block that needs a home and the guy we got the car from said with the motor he was running(a very mild 350) at 2400 lbs he was in the 7's in the 1/8. I hope to get in the 6's with my motor and there's always the "squeeze gas" to help even more. I know I shouldn't do it but its really too easy not to do it. Its been awhile since I did any racing so it might take me awhile to get her dialed in good but I'll post some timeslips when I get it going.
 
That's actually pretty common in the drag world. And yes it is cheaper and better.
 
its just a fox theres 1000s screwed up a lot worse then just putting a sbc in it.
 
actually down here at sunshine speedway and bradenton, even over in orlando, all the fox's you see in the staging lines are 97% small block chevy's its very common these days. its just like all the old street rod fords from the 20's and 30's you rarely see any with ford plants in them. my old boss and close friend has a 32 ford 5 window with a 350 and an old weiand blower on top, he also has a 40 ford with a 409 factory dual quad motor in it from a 64 impala he wrecked a long time ago.

There's no way "97% of the foxs" there are SBC's... maybe 1 or 2 at the most...
 
There's a fox body at the track here that runs the Turbo Buick V-6.
The thing "leaves on the rear bumper" every time!

its a very very fast car.

Only 1 that I know of.. buddy has his dads stone stock 93 red hatch with porno red interior.

98% of them I see have some version of a 347 with every bolt on known to man.

not to many virgin foxes I see anymore, but that goes for just about "any breed"... and people too! {LMA0)
 
yep chevy is the way to go. Where is that video of that blue mark with a bbc? Ran like a 9 or something IIRC

You know that a 347 is a 5.0 with a bigger crank right?

Not much to take a pic of just yet. Just a big ole hole where the motor goes. I'm freshening the bottom end with new mains and rod bearings and changing intakes as well. Hope to take some pics this weekend. BTW, did any fox mustangs come with manual rack and pinions? It has a power unit on it and the guy wasn't running a pump on it. It just has a hose looped around the fittings.

Whats hard about building a 302? I've been a Chevy man most of my life and found the 302 to be really easy to make good power. Its a pushrod internal combustion american V-8, really simple to rod.

He knows I should have said windsor not 5.0
The point is not too many have a sbc because it dosen't make sense.
You can make the 12's without too much effort.

Yep thats what you will see. The after market exploded for the fox platform.

:rolleyes: the only time its gets cheap"er" is when you go super racing...super street, super comp, super gas ect. you get into that and nothing is cheap anymore, it takes a little more then bolting on some squeeze and waiting for something to pop.
