im considering changing the color of the 98 lsc from white to black, my question is would it lower the value of the car doing a color change, now im not even thinking this car is a high value car, im just wondering would it be a bad decision since its a c/e..

I have yet to see a case were a CE sells for more just because its a CE. They certainly TRY to sell them for more, but at this time (and probably for the next 10 years) they are not a collectable car.

Lets put it this way. The latest collector Mark series is a Mark V. The Mark VI series it finally gaining some collectability though. And these cars are 30 years old.

So if you plan on keeping the Mark for another 20 years, I would go for it. A new paint job will only hurt the resale value to a hardcore collector. Even then many restored cars end up with a color change.

You're wondering about the value of the car...well....Marks usually go between 2-4 grand for a normal margin. With that in mind, you're thinking of spending money to paint, and then get what it's "worth"

Why not just sell the CE for close to 4..then find a 3 grand black one... And split
The profit with me

There are several black ones that are cheaper than a CE would go for. If the CE is in good shape, it will go for $4000+ in my experience. Then pick up a black one with a few upgades already done for the same price or less and save the money you would have spent on a paintjob. Black Mark VIII's are the best!!

I also have an Opalescent LSC but like alot of members here
I like black Marks too. But it would take a real nice paint job
for me to appreciate a color change.

Since you already understand that your C/E is not a high
value car, you probaby already know that you will never
recoup a good paint job. But one thing is certain. You will
have a big grin from ear to ear each time you get in your
car once you change things the way you like it to be.

And that is the bottom line of owning a Mark, isn't it?

the car will need a repaint either way, thats why its a consideration, as for cars in general, any work or mods you do will almost never be recouped at sale time, so yes it becomes a personal desire, and for the quality of body work i want, it really comes down to paint in the end, a 2 stage black or a 3 stage pearl. i would think the black would be cheaper, does it make sense, or am i over thinking it...plus i think the black would go with the grey interior better..

You've also goto think of the extra cost associated with a full color change....door jambs, engine bay, trunk edges, etc....have to be painted as well.

that would be done either way, the original paint is beyond rough on this car, was in the sun for close to 2 years ,

i have always told customers its a waste to change the color of your car to another factory color. just sell this one and buy a black one.even if this one needs a paint job you could still sell it for a decent price then buy a black one and save yourself the 5+ grand that you would be spending in a complete color change. i actually refused to paint my wifes durango because she wants it a factory green so i told her ill just sell it and buy a green one and save me aq bunch of time.

funny you mentioned wife, mine is insisting i keep it the original color. that may be the deciding factor now. either way i have a couple of months, its getting the paint after the mechanical issues are done ( engine, trans, fender rolling, etc ) then paint is last ..

I am planning on painting mine a dark blue. I was feeling guilty about not using a factory color to keep its authenticity but after reading this thread I fell great about my decision.
