Well, I am behind - Calabrio - post #14
By your first statement, you think that some whites congratulate themselves for voting for Obama just because he is black?
I imagine there are those who do this. Why? Maybe guilt, or looking for a different type of change, or maybe to appear 'above all this race stuff'. I don't know. but, I am sure you are right that there are those that are going to vote that way.
Isn't it quite a different set of circumstances when you are voting 'for' something, there isn't quite the 'bad' connotation here. Voting against Obama just because you claim that you dislike all blacks and mistrust all blacks is a lot different isn't it? Where if you are voting 'for' Obama because you feel guilty that perhaps blacks haven't had a fair chance in America, or that you think that the best chance for change in this country will come from a black man, that doesn't seem to be on par with the 'against' statements.
Certainly there are those that are afraid that Obama is a communist marxist racist, they are voting their conscious. But there are those that are just voting against him because of the color of his skin, period. They wouldn't vote for Clarence Thomas for president, obviously not because of idealogy, which might march directly with theirs, but because his skin is black.
Well, my weak point regarding this election will have to stand, the selection of Asian descent candidates is quite narrow.
Now, when I looked up racist - in regards of whites voting 'for' Obama because he is black this is the definition I found - is this pretty much how you define 'racist' Calabrio?
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/racist
1. a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race is superior and has the right to rule others.
2. a policy, system of government, etc., based upon or fostering such a doctrine; discrimination.
3. hatred or intolerance of another race or other races.
Definition 1. I don't know if voting 'for' someone because their skin color is different than yours qualifies there. I doubt if most of the white people voting for Obama believe that blacks are "superior and have the right to rule others".
Definition 2. The second definition doesn't really apply here.
Definition 3. As far as voting for Obama if you are white - well, obviously you aren't voting for him because you have hatred or intolerance for blacks. Maybe a vote for Obama if you are white indicates you have a hatred or intolerance for whites? Sort of a weird stretch there.
Of course, speculation on Cabinet on either side is very much that, just speculation. I certainly think by you saying "Obama will pick some fringe socialist, perhaps a friend of Bill Ayers, to fill that position. " How do you know what he will do, how do you know what McCain will do. I guess I don't have the amount of insight that you do.
I do know what names have been thrown around on the Obama side - Luger looks like he will get something - perhaps Secretary of State. Treasurer - Summers or maybe Rubin. Defense - Obama has indicated he probably will stay with Gates. Believe me when you see the lists... it is pretty much a very socialist communistic radical bunch if you ask me.

So, you think Obama is a Marxist, you really do - hummmm.
And I won't debate the keating/contra/mccain effect - not because I can't - I won't, I would much rather make a case for voting for someone rather than all the smear that happens when you get into the pit of why you should vote against someone. I fight the smear against Obama, but that doesn't mean I am willing to spread it against McCain.
I was afraid to post at your 'why are you voting for obama' thread Calabrio, for good cause, it just became smear against Obama. I would hope that if you posted a thread that was about the reasons you are voting for McCain/Palin that I wouldn't be over there smearing. I might ask a question or two - but, hopefully in the spirit of finding out more.
I do respect the fact that you personally didn't use that thread as an opportunity to just smear.
