Cold Air Intake = Check Engine Light

Whats up...so here goes...got the kkm cold air inake tube and filter from lskoncepts.com. Drove for about 100 miles check engine light came on. Got it scanned at autozone and p0171 n p0174 codes came up saying system too lean bank 1 n bank 2. I took out the MAF and cleaned it with throttle body cleaner and ck engine light came off. After a tank of gas the light comes back on. I took out the battery and then turned the headlights on and stepped on the brake as this alledgedly clears all memory in comp. Let it sit overnight and connected battery and drove the hell outta it to store new air flow. Another tank of gas and the light came back on. I havent gotten the car re scanned for the engine light but never had anyproblems with te light coming on. Its not flashing but the light is pissing me off and i know alot of you out there have cold air intakes on your gen 1s.
Any suggestions or has any of this happened to any of you??? do i need to get my comp re-calibrated???

My CEL came on after my intake install. I erased tha code and it has never come on again. That was over 50k ago.
 
how did u erase the CEL code??? autozone or disconnect battery??? was it the same codes that i had run??
 
Long time ago so hard to say if its the same code. I have my own scanner, I read the code, erased it and it never returned ever.
 
it is suggesting you you have unmetered air entering the system - so somewhere there is a leak.
 
+1, if you don't look into it don't be surprised if the car cuts out on you and you find the filter and MAF disconnected from the tube. Some members here:rolleyes: can tell you of stories. Get a silicone coupler or something to hold the tube and MAF together.
 
I had the same problem with my K&N, swore up and down that the K&N Typhoon was the cause. It ended up being a tiny air leak.
 
I agree with everybody else and also had the codes following the kkm install. Go carefully over the entire install and make sure everything is fitted tight (don't over tighten) but the most usual suspect is the little where the hose fits and the little screw that tightens at the manifold. Be sure the hose is flush, then tighten.
 
Actually, there is a bracket that holds the filter in place. That bracket gets connected to the body and when you give it some good throttle it has been known to pull apart the MAF from the tube.
 
Thanks for all the input guys....havent had the time to take it apart and get all new rubber housings and thouroughly inspect it, probabaly over the weekend...Ill keep you all posted...hopefully this CEL goes away.
 
on obd1 you remove the battery cables and the cel goes off. on obd2 you need a scanner

That's what happened to me. I had a cracked turn signal fluid reservoir. You can get replacements cheap from Max at 5 start ford.

I put in DOT4 blinker fluid in the reservoir instead of DOT3 and I got a CEL too.
