Cobra intake w/ "B" heads ?

The Cobra intake manifold is superior for racing purposes over the gen 2 and the gen 1 intake. The gen 1 intake is actually pretty good for low to mid rpm torque and may actually be better than the Cobra intake in that regard. High rpm horsepower it's all about the Cobra intake. If you are going to do it, do it right and get a short runner Cobra intake, 4.30 gears and a 3600-3800rpm stall.

The gen 2 manifold is actually not that bad as people make it out to be. It makes better power than the gen 1 in the upper rpms and I ran good times NA shifting at 7000rpm with the gen 2 manifold.

get a short runner Cobra intake

Did you by chance run the car a number of times at the track naturally aspirated before you cut the runners like that? Just wondering. I need to try not to read into what everyone says, but I've heard short-runner for power adder cars only NOT naturally aspirated.

I WAS WAITING FOR YOUR REPLY. its only worth it if your like one of us guys like that will spend anything and use any extra time and effort to shave 2/10ths off your 1/4 mi time. i think its # 56 on the list.
but its a bit pricey but it looks like its complete with throttle body and whatnot. i missed out by 5 minutes on one for $300 without throttlebody.

You can use the stock throttle body inversed 180 degrees. That's what I did.

Heck, I have a TB I can probably give you. If you win an auction without one, let me know. I have a few of them and we can see if they will work. One is from a Mach, one a Mark, one a Cobra and one is a prototype!

That is absolutely false. A proper short runner Cobra intake is good for NA and boosted/nitrous applications. Do some reading on the SVT/DOHC corral forum, lots of good info there. PS. I don't have a short runner, I just have the IMRC's deleted.

Gotcha. Well, for now, I'm keeping my intake as is and my IMRCs in place. Deleting the IMRCs is another ball of wax that the tuner has to deal with and I have other things on my plate with this car right now. It's interesting to see what everyone has done though and it would be more interesting to see some datalogs and such when it comes to these sorts of modifications and what kind of tuning is necessary but I'm not sure if I could wrap my head around all of that because I'm not a tuning professional by any means.

I know a buddy of mine did the deletes on a friend's 97 Cobra and the thing turned into a turd on the street under 4K rpms even with 4.10s and a stall. Makes me wonder if they just threw on the deletes and didn't properly tune for them. If you ask DLF, I'm pretty sure he had some substantial tuning adjustments that had to be made both for the Cobra intake and the deletes. And if I recall correctly, he had a thread concerning the tuning for the Cobra intake and datalogs were showing him some pretty ugly things on the graph before he got his tune hammered down to where it is now.

Not trying to read into your situation or be a know-it-all because I'm really not, but maybe you have some tuning issues to be addressed??

Good times for a Gen2 maybe. :p

The historical numbers don't back up your statement. The overwhelming majority of 13 second Gen2 Mark VIIIs have ditched the stock Gen2 intake. There has been many Gen1s with stock intakes running 13s. Not enough Gen1s have swapped to a Cobra intake to really see a dominate pattern IMHO.

I ran low 13's with the stock gen 2 intake manifold. With nitrous but still 14.0 all motor.

My car has a custom sniper tune for the cobra intake, imrc deletes and egr delete. It works fine. Can it be better with a full dyno tune? Of course...

"a stall"

Huh??

Cobra's only came with manual transmissions, did he swap in an auto?

My Cobra runs fine with a ported short runner intake and deletes.

Yes, it originally had a stick but it was swapped over to an automatic. And of course Doug, your Mark VIII also seems to do well with the deletes as well.;) I just wonder if the tuner will be able to make the adjustments with as much intellect as you did. I have trust issues. :D

Have I considered the deletes? Yes. Lemme just run it like this first real quick and see. :p

What a great way to ruin a perfectly good Cobra.

Yeah, you're telling me. If that was done, god knows what if anything at all they did tuning-wise when they threw the deletes on. But, I don't talk to that clown anymore because he drinks a lot and I think it spilled over into his daily life when working on cars. Yeah, those two things don't go together especially for someone who puts a splash of OJ in with his Vodka.

Honestly, sometimes I wish I didn't live up here. The crowd of Mark8 guys here with a true appreciation and knowledge of these cars is quite small. I've seriously considered taking some time off of work and going on a road trip LOL.
