Chevy Cobalt as a possible Next Car. What do you guys think?

everyone likes something different, its a good car and one of the best in its category. Atleast the cobalt was made from the get go to have fast models unlike the SRT-4 and is much better stock for stock from the factory(driven both). Not everyone has to get something to ones eye is like a $30K car, hell if I wanted I could be in a very nice car by the way people on here dis on anything less but thats not me.

Its all up to him whether he wants the car or not, maybe once he gets in one and spends sometime around he well decide to get something "nice" but maybe he'll decide its all he needs as I did. If he does anything to it to make it more his like you would your LS' he is free to do so as am I and could care less if people hate it cause its a toy, my whole thing is, get something that fits, can bust some ass on the strip including the better "ricers" whether I regarded as fake or not and be able to afford more important things like a home and support for a family later on and not spend tons of money buying something "real" and spending more on parts because its that kind of car.

Dude, really you are 100% correct if you know how to use the power and know how to appreciate it. You sound as if you deserve it so.. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.:) :) :)

How ever most people buy into this as a poser car which is what it was meant for just like the SRT-4 and so on.
To be honest IMO any American made car designed to compete with the import Tuner generation/walk of life is gay and poserish and they have and always will FAIL but do not take offense to my opinion. They may knock of track time but In my opinion the knock of respect in every manner. If you are doing it as you say, to have fun, then thats cool but to gain recognition and bragging rights in a type of automotive scene based on who can make something out of nothing is not cool IMO.

If it was directed towards a different type of "walk of life" I personally dont know if it would be such a big deal to me.

Just as you say you are entitled to your positive opinion on the topic so are we our negative ones:D .

I take no offense to anything from here, maybe cause its the most negative place i have ever been apart of lol but I do not look at GM as being a poser w/ their car, as they in a way along w/ dodge and ford started this whole sport compact scene. Before that what foreign maker really had a ballsy car, the civic was laughable until not to long ago. Maybe its just cause i have been around people modded their Cavaliers, Daytona's and such since i was like 5 years old. Just the big 3 as normal dropped out of the scene so to speak and than it was the foreign makers who went into the lead as having more "impressive" econobox pieces of crap w/ some muscle. Honda would have not brought back the Si recently if the SRT4 had not come out and Chevy needed to replace the aging j-body and came out w/ the cobalt(far better) and knew it wanted an Competitor to the 4, only one that lacked and continues to lack at bringing a car like this is Ford, they just reskin the focus into uglier cloths and still do not offer anything better than 130HP. Yea, they had that 160 SVT model but yea, that never was anything special, I know cause I was going to get one when I wanted to get out of my 03 cavalier but did not like it and eventually got the Lincoln and than realized this car was not for me, it was nice looking but definitely was not something special or should i say, Ford refused to make it special.

I still think he should go for a SS model though, as he well be alittle more happy w/ it than an LT but maybe he well be fine, I even look at LS's, Sports and LTs and just cringe alittle knowing what it was like having one, nice but you are just a poser if you roll w/ one of them and try to make it look like an SS, there is alot of that going on, and then they go out and do stupid crap giving all of us balts a bad name. Eh, whatever though haha.

You can get a balt for around $12k new, or I have seen. I looked at a new turbo yesterday, said 24 on the window sticker but after talking to the salesman, if I wanted to give up all my hard work into my SC they could drop that almost 5k or better if I wanted them to look over my SC. they lost me after they said I should drive it and feel some power that'd put my SC to shame or something along those lines, I just laughed and asked if any of them can drive one good cause I would love to pull them side by side on their side road and show 'em, unfortionately they declined and dropped it and I said peace.

Mazda and both Nissan and its early Datsun had those beat by far. I too have been watching it grow since I was very young. Im about 28 now and the earliest cars to the street tuner scene that I can remember are not American at all.

People that are so gung ho American compact laugh at Hondas but they ignore the universal J-body and how easy it is to swap and mod the things. In fact it has become more universal and more " aftermarket steady" than any Honda out. But the parts found are really crap which is another aspect people ignore so well they forget those generic parts exist.

I grew out of Hondas when I was a little tyke but at least I still understand that they have more than a few reputable aftermarket companies with some good game under their belts in this classification.

I used to sell chevrolet, I was suprised by the cobalt but only the 5 speed. The auto was crappy. I blame the tranny. Just old and inefficient. The motor for its size puts out quite a bit of power and can be "fun" to drive. I'm 6' and had plenty of room, just don't expect to get a friend in the seat behind you. Not that the LS is much better in rear seat leg room department. Only thing I disliked was the way the interior felt cheap.. but its a cheap car. As for the reliablity... 5 year / 100,000 mile factory warranty kinda covers most issues, not to mention they've used that engine for a while and I don't remember too many cobalts coming in for service. Just get one with some options or you'll hate it after the first week.

I also own a 06 Focus ZX4 and I think its a better car. I can't remember the prices but our Focus pretty much loaded minus Leather was around 13k. It handles good, and I think it it feels like it has more power than the cobalt. The interior doesn't feel as cheap either. Neither cars seats are that great on a long trip but little cars aren't there to cater to roadtrip prone people. If you like the looks of a cobalt, test drive one and make sure you really will be satisfied with the cars performance. Once you've owned it you can always add a turbo.. buy some SS badges and put mesh in the grilles :P

just my $.02

I've been wanting to post on this thread for a while now but my damn home computer was giving me fit's for a while there and thats where I had these pictures saved. I was in a car accident back in 06, 03/28/06 as a matter of fact (3 year anniversary is coming up). I owned the Cobalt for barely over a year when the accident happened but it was “good times” while I owned it! Yeah it was small and it wasn't the fastest sub-compact on the road but it was fun to drive. If you see the pictures I feel very blessed to still be alive!!! To bad about the Taco Bell I had in the car though... I was looking forward to it that night to, DAMN!

Cheap and reliable = older honda accord..... I don't care if you are looking for an american car or w/e. I saw a 96 accord fully loaded with 42,000 miles for $3200. Wish I woulda bought it but there are similar ones out there. They run 200-300k.

Yeah and Honda's are also good for breaking into. They are the easiest mother :q:q:q:qers to break into...my buddy showed me how to break into a 90s Civic using only a tennis ball with a hole drilled into the top.....

Yeah older Civics and Jeep Grand Cherokees, all you need is a screw driver. If you want cheap, reliable, and American why not look at a fox body or SN95 Mustang? Base models can be found for dirt cheap and if you decided that you wanted to modify it later on, V8 swaps are quite easy and relatively cheap to do. Or if you don't want the hassle you could just buy the 5.0

I was making a unprotected left turn so... Under 25. The F-150 was going 65 the police reports say.

Had to go the ER and get an MRI, found some brain hemorrhaging on both front left and right lobes. Suffered some muscle trauma to my right rotator cuff. I had dizzy spells for a couple of months and had to go to physical therapy for my shoulder for 3 months. It's all good now, I see strait and my shoulder is stronger than ever!
