I just bought another Mark VIII. I bought my first one new in 97' so i'm excited about having another one!.
I have done a bunch of searches to no avail so here goes....
When I start it up I get a "Check Headlights" messsage. Can anyone give me some advice on how to fix this. My headlights work. I have been hitting reset to clear the message, and it doesn't come back till I restart my car. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

My "new" Mark VIII is a 97' LSC in pearl white, tan interior with chrome wheels, 87,500 miles. Over all very clean looking. The interior is a little worn looking but no tears or major damage. I need an ash tray door/lid for the center consol. The seat motors are weak. As are the streering colume motors. The motor is a little sluggish. There is a little clunking in the rear over bumps but not bad. The air ride is working (YEA!!!!) All this for 3k. This is the exact car I bought new in 97.

its an LSC so it originally came with HIDs. does it still have HIDs? if its been converted to halogens, that trips the message on some cars.
does it have a relay kit in it or anything else aftermarket?

Hi Chris,

How can I tell if it's been changed over?.

checking to see if the ballast is still there is one way.
another way, is when HIDs are first turned on when cold, they will be dim, and then warm up, becoming brighter.

halogens will just come on and be bright.

of course, if an aftermarket HID kit has been put in, everything may appear fine.
so it's hard to say without pictures. but i do not know what the stock ballasts look like. i've never seen one.

I just went out and checked, they come on dim and get brighter.

you need to pull the headlight out and actually check and see if the bulbs have been changed.

More details please like are they the same brightness or do they light up at the same rate
Bets thing to do is get the factory manuals and start diagnostics

They light up at the same rate. The right side is slightly less bright. Both are blueish white. I will pull the lights out this weekend and check to see if stock. I am also changing out the rear rotors this weekend (from sloted to stock). I did the fronts last weekend. Plus it's going to the alignment shop to check the front end.
I love having a Mark VIII again!!!

You don't need to take them out to see if their stock just take a look through the plastic cover
You should see a small level if their stock and the stock buld base is more or less a cube

I checked the headlights. They are after market HID's with aftermarket ballest's.

Congrats! I was looking for a pearl white myself but turned out the one I looked at was in a front end collision in the past.

I ended up with a blue one instead =D

How does it feel to be back in another one after all this time??

Yeah, some aftermarket versions do that. Sappers first set always did that and when we used the set off the 93 it stopped. Guess it has to do with power draw so the cheaper kits may be better at not triggering the error.
