Check Engine light code, explain it to me?

My check engine light came on so I went and got it code-read and it came up P0171 System Too Lean (Bank 1 in engine) What does this mean and what or how do I fix this?

Bad/marginal coils (replace coils and plugs)
Intake air leak (maybe PCV plumbing)
Bad MAF
Bad fuel injector(s)
Clogged fuel filter
Bad fuel pump
Bad 02 sensor
Slipped timing chain

If it was a slipped timing chain, wouldnt I be able to hear the timing chain clankin around in there?

a broken timing chain is not the best for the performance of your LS :shifty:

usually leads to catastrophic failure of the engine...

Like an intake air leak somewhere on the top of the engine?

Your exactly right Joe
I would make sure your connection to the throttle body is tight, and all accessories leading from the intake are tight. If they are good, move on to replacing the throttle body gasket. If it's just bank one, it might be the intake manifold gasket for that bank sucking by air.
 
Okay, so I took it in to the shop today, and oddly enough they were not able to identify where the leak was coming from, so how can i go about checking all these things out that you said I should check? such as throttle body gasket, and intake manifold gasket

Don't forget the PCV plumbing as well.
One way is to spray starter fluid around where you think it could be. When you hit the right spot, the engine will react. (If this goes badly wrong, please don't sue me.)

Glad you mentioned that. Lady mentioned that behind the parts counter today and I just shrugged it off. I had the same issue you're having buddy except it's the other side.

I think he would have a hard time. I believe the terms and conditions of the forum outline that sort of thing.

But yes this method works. Check the little grommets on top of the Intake manifold. There will be two larger vacuum lines that go in the top of the manifold right after the throttle body and they both have little rubber grommets that where out and dry rot over time. If you wiggle them around and the sound gets louder or quieter you know where the leak is
 
Oh I should add the guy at the shop said their scanners said something about the gas on that side, levels being messed up or something.. Sorry long day, lot of family issues going on right now, kinda sorta more important, but I also need to try to figure this out
 
Have them check all of the connections on the fuel rail. Could be partially clogged or have a loose connection.

Hahahaha, when I read the starter fluid I was like "oh my, get out the marshmallows" (had it happen to me with carb cleaner). Safe way is to use
propane and spray around until you see you sprayed an area that changed engine idle.

Propane is a bit safer, but "safe" isn't really the right word either.
 
Ive been a little slow to get back on here, long week. Anywho on the write up the shop gave me it said my "fuel trims were high" along with the code, and stated that the only possibility was a leak in intake area. Does that sound like bs, and if so anyone still have any ideas of what it might be. He also asked me if it idled bad at all, it did once but I got gas and threw some lucas in and it went away right after. Sooo i am super confused.
