In the quest for H.P. Has anyone thought of removing the exhaust system & rigging inexpensive tubing & glasspack or similar type muffler,s . We know helping the powerplant breathe increases H.P. Just a curiosity question.

modular engines need back pressure to run properly not only rigging a cheap exhaust hurt your performance it will also hurt your engine. if you want to be cheap get a honda and ghetto rig a coffee can exhaust on it or somthing. you drive a lincoln mods and accessories are going to be expensive. you buy the name you pay to be in the game. save up plan and do it right.
i suggest a lms tripple x cross over to a lms cat back exhaust. order it all from geno then have a local shop fab it on. i have stock exhaust on flowmasters as we speak. i talked to geno and in about a month or so i will be doing my exhaust.
lincoln= not cheap

Id remove the 3rd cat and due a 2 in 2 out magnaflow, When I do my exhaust im gonna due a 2 in 2 out magnaflow with all cats removed o2 simulators in there place.

Third Cat? On an LS?

Ouch, that honda thing was below the belt... he just ask a question, be nice :D

I would sub the glass packs with flowmasters, see how it sounds.... you can use either 2 or 3 chambered.

Glass packs actually create more back pressure, according to what I was told by an experienced exhaust specialist. Me I never like how they sounded.

Good luck, keep us posted.

dude there are things that you can do to get a better sound then putting glasspacks on your ls like a 2 1/2 in or a 3in with supper 40s from flowmaster

Flowmaster mufflers are horrible, if you look at the flow bench numbers you'll notice that flowmasters will, without a doubt rank at the bottom. And yes, you could do your own exhaust, your best bet are to get some car sound cats to replace the stock ones. However, if not thats ok.

I highly recommend getting a magnaflow system for your vehicle. It is easily the cheapest highest quality exhaust kit your going to get for about $500. The flow numbers on this are great and should net you a realistic 5-10hp, it has a nice tone to it you can here but its not that loud. I think it might be a good compromise.

Also, their are PLENTY of people who work on their equally expensive corvettes so don't be discouraged into delving into this project yourself. If you've got the tools and time there is no reason not to. If not, an exhaust shop will do it for cheap.

If you decide to do it make sure you get the right one for your year of vehicle.

dude you have no idea what you are talking about there are only 2 cats on a ls

On the '03+ LS there is a third cat that replaces the x-pipe on the '00-'02

I don't belive so. It is listed as a resonator in the parts book, not a third cat.

An SCT tune and cold air intake are the only horsepower mods actually produced for the 03+ LS's that I am currently aware of. You can mod the exhaust for sound but probably wont get much in the way of additional power.

The SCT Xcal2 or Xcal2 SF will run you anywhere from $300-$395 depending on the dealer. If you have hookups within the SCT community you can get them for much cheaper.

There are two CAI's made for the 03+ LS's. KKM produces one through which Gray Ghost (LsKoncepts) sells through here; and I also make one for the V8 that is a little more complete but also more expensive.

Other than that there isn't anything else specifically made for the 03+ LS. The Lincoln LS will not gain any more popularity with the aftermarket community than it already has. Being that the LS has been cancelled there is no real reason for a lot of people to jump on a dying aftermarket now. The tough luck is that the LS wasnt really recognized by the aftermarket all that much and it is only going to get worse. That is why some of the people with good fabbing skills from this board end up taking things into their own hands and creating their own aftermarket mods. I had to do the same thing with my 03 Explorer because no one produced a high horsepower capable supercharger for them. I guess with all my blabbing what I am trying to say is that sometimes a person has to take the aftermarket into their own hands, provided that they know what they're doing...:p

Rocket, do you have a web site or pics of your CAI? I have the KKM on mine and need the "cold air box".

He's not really offering a box but rather an extended tube for a "true" cold air intake. Basically the filter will NOT be in the engine bay.

My home made insulated box works well, but I would still like to have a more "finished" insulating box for my system someday.:)

Yep. Ken is right. As for now the one I already have developed is in the engine bay. Once it gets a touch warmer here and I can work outside in comfort again I will tackle the fitment issues with the fenderwell CAI. As of now I only have pictures of the engine bay CAI. Just let me know if you still want them and I can email some to you.

Is that supposed to be one of those things you put on your windshield on a hot day?

You talking about GWL's heatshield thingy? Now that ya mention it I do see a resemblance in material.

I Would Go With Gutting Out Cats And Pre Mufflers And Adding 2 Flowmasters, I Have A 95 Lsc Thats What I Did It Sounds Great!!! My Buddy Had A Standard 95 Mark And He Had To Add The X-pipe That Comes Stock With The Lsc's And He Has Magna Flow....sounds Gay, Not A Very Noticable Sound What So Ever, But Some People Just Want A Very Quite Exuast With Some Tone If Your That Kind Of Person Go With The Magna Flows, If U Want A More Aggressive Tone However, I Would Do What Exactly As I Listed That I Did On Mine. Good Luck With Whatever U Choose!

Off topic. There are such things called periods. They work great for punctuation instead of substituting comma's all the time. :D Just giving ya a hard time man. ;)

OK. im not an expert but i have completely removed all the exaust and emissions components(cats) and nothing but my check engine light has come on for obvios reasons. as far as preformance goes at least by the seat of my pants lower rpm's and takeoff a bit slower but i feel a huge difference in top end high rpm acceleration, and its prob the best sounding and loudest exaust ive yet to hear on an ls. you think its ghetto fine, but i paid 15K for mine and you can get one for 10k now used. so im gonna keep riggin it and beatin the hell out of it till it expoldes then get another one. To hell with payin 800+ for an exhaust
2000 LS V8
gutted
dropped 2in (cut springs)
limo tints
intake (rigged)

nope - if you go too big with the exhaust (like cut-outs or 4" piping) you will end up moving the torque curve up the rpm scale because you have lost soo much backpressure.

so you need some backpressure to have the torgue down in the lower rpms for a good launch - but too much will build at the higher rpms and hurt the performance there.

so like anything else - it's a trade.

I agree! I do my own exhaust, and i did mandrel bent 2.5 inch with a home made scavenger pipe and the 4inX9in mangnaflows. I LOST low end but gained a :q:q:q:q load of mid and top ranger performance.

Dude dont get a magnaflow they sound like crap have someone get you the pipes and get some other mufflers. My magnaflow also cracked at some welds with only about 10k miles. I think Im gunna try the flowmaster hush power 2.
