changes from 97-98

Don't think there is any difference in the two except that the 98 had a collectors edition

Early 97's had the HID light bulbs hard wired to the ballasts, None of the 97's had the trans with the updated one way clutch, 97's had a few different color options, 97 and 98 black interiors are different colors.

not true, it isnt hard wired, it just has a tamper proof shield around the plug, if you know how to be careful you can remove them so the bulbs can be unplugged from the ballast.

also not a 100% accurate , 97's also came with the better looking air bag in the steering wheel, only 97's that were made in the end of 96 had the older air bags, i have taken apart a ton of 97's with the new cover and hard plastic lincoln emblem on them. there are very few changes made that are true 100% changes, the biggest thing with 98's is locating abs sensors front and rear, 93-97 all interchange, 98's are all by themselves and trying to find them is almost impossible, thats one huge p.i.t.a change that ford did.

rears are 98 only too, they have a much larger pick up on them, you cant use 93-97 fronts or rears on 98's. brandon keep your eyes open for spares because some day you'll need them. max on lod looked for 6 months for a front for his 98 until i finally got a 98 in and sold him one.

I don't know how many but at least a few late 97's had the upgraded tranny.

I would live on the side of caution if I had a 97 as far as the trans goes... Just say no to manual shifting...

97-98 had different speaker covers on the doors, i've been lookin for a black 98 one for a while on the passenger side, someone replaced my 97 driver side. The 98 is smooth and looks much better. From my research the carpet was the same as well.

My 97 has plug and play bulbs and hard plastic emblem in the steering wheel.

Wonder if it had the updated tranny?

not all 98's have the smooth jbl emblem in the tweeter grill either, it was a mix of 98's that had it, my 98 still had the older square style jbl tweeter emblems.
