Hey guys,

Im at work and my wife called me to tell me the Check engine light is on, on the 2005 LS (V8). When I get home I'm gonna check for the cause.
Oil change was done 5,000 kms ago. So I'm gonna check for oil level.

I was wondering, on these Second Gens, what else is there to look out for (common) that could trigger the CEL light?

any suggestions would help. Thanks.

It could literally be anything... Don't worry about it too much until you can pull the code.

Rare they cause a CEL unless its missing really bad... hard to guess... it could be anything. You'll find out more info with the code.

Low oil level won't throw a code and trigger the CEL. If it is a flashing CEL, PARK IT and get it checked out before any damage is done.

Is this a game. Do we get anything if we guess right?

I bet inefficiency code.

Yes, but for some reason that seems to be the first thing most people think of. It seems fair to assume that those same people don't otherwise check the oil level or condition.

I change my oil every 5K, I use full synthetic. In the 7 year I've driven my 02, Ive never burned more than 1.5 Litres. So I dont bother anymore checking oil levels because of that....

anyways, I got the car here and im gonna go scan it. I'll report back with the codes.

EDIT: Its NOT a flashing CEL. It just came on and stayed.

Hey everyone. So I used my Xcal 2 Tuner to scan for the DTC. Only 1 DTC showed up. took a snap with my phone. Heres what it looks:

Is that the sensor on the cat?

Any idea where I should start?

You start by replacing the COPs and plugs, of course! Just like everything else. You know, LS has a flat tire, replace COPs and plugs, loosen lugnuts, jack up car, ect...

Swap your rear O2 sensors with each other. If the problem follows the sensor, replace it. If the problem follows the cat, replace it. Problem solved!
