car's ringing at idle, like a real high pitch sound, but its not that loud - seems to ring slightly higher pitched if i rev it up a small bit, its dark so I can't really see whats going on. everything appears to be ok the car drives strong, but im just a bit concerned. the only thing thats giving me issue is the ps. however another thing that it just started doing is the idle kinda sticks in park if i rev it up it doesnt go down as fast as it used to, it kinda hesitates a little bit or goes down slower than normal. i was on it pretty hard tonight more than usual.

another thing i hear from time to time a clunking sound when i shift through the gears at park, or if im driving and come to a stop ill hear a slight clunk. nothing sounds terrible its just little sounds that I know somethings wrong and i want to figure out what it is / or get any opinions.

oh yea the clunking of the trans happends almost all the time if i pull the chip, and i dont know if its just these cars, but damn the trans always wants to be in the 3-4 gear even at like 30-40 mph, its terrible with out the over drive on. my car never likes to be in 2nd unless your on on it, or its between like 700-1500 rpms in third or 4th if the od is on and its real annoying

egh i guess im just venting. lemme know what you think. i have time tomorrow to do a couple of maintaince items so hopefully that will clear it up.

btw i have 113 and some change on the clock. I am passed my oil due date on the mileage by maybe 300 miles but the computer says im at 20% oil life left.

I havn't done a trans flush yet so im probably going to do that tomorrow.

also the car was really well maintained before i got it - i got a HUGE stack of documents from the P/O who was teh original owner some older gentlemen DR.

i forsee the j-mod very soon too.

Take your serpentine belt off and see if the noise goes away.
If so, then more then likely you have a bad chip..{joking smile)

Probably it's either the tensioner pulley or the idler pulley, they make a ringing, whining sound when they go bad.

Once you get the belt off.. spin both those pullies by hand, taking careful note of any "grinding or rough spinning feeling".

If both those pullies pass the spin test then check your water pump pulley for slack, or a grinding feeling when it turns.

The reason I mention the water pump pulley is because the shape of the pulley is like a bell... when the water pump bearing starts to go out..the sound is heard transmitted thru/via the water pump pulley.

Taking the belt off and starting the car will quickly let you know if it's an accessory pulley or not.

...back to mark8.org to snuggle with my blue oval buddies..
hope this helps.

ANSWER IT!!!!!!!!!! lolol I am so sorry I couldn't resist! lol

Will a scope help any? I know I could tell where the loud humminglike noise was coming from mine when I listened with the scope. The tensor is but when the pully in starts going it is really loud! No degradeation in the taughtness of the belt cause the tensionor was doing it's job the pully was just worn and screaming on mine.

Oh and scour the documents for previous repairs involving any noise or maintenance of the belts and pullies, alt., etc pretty much anything moving.

Let us know what ya find!

thanks a lot for the help, XL yea that makes a lot of sense i should have thought of taking the belt off. The strange thing it only does it once the has been under a lot of stress/load.

i did the seafoam today and it seemed to help out a bit gas milage/smoother running. one thing i noted is that at idle is vibrates the car a wee bit more.

i put like half the bottle through the vac line on the drivers side that connects to the pcv valve. i couldnt get my car to stall like most people say it just sucked it all right up rather quickly. however i did take my time at first doing a little at a time in the beginning. i also put maybe 1/3 of the can in the oil through the add oil cap.

it also helped my sticking hesitating rev. i let it sit about 10 minutes when i turned it on it didnt want to start, but after 2-3 tried it started and i got a decent cloud, it wasnt as dramatic as some people make it out to be, or i didnt have that much carbon build up.

back the ringing. the only thing really fishy with my car is the power steering, it wines a bit when i first start the car then goes away, it also quielty wines if i turn the wheel in park or going slow more than usual. however its not loud enough that i'm very concerned.

so could possibly be the power steering pump on its way out?

also the belt slips a bit under WOT from 1/2 sorta a squeek sound.

XL if someone has a blue oval or SCT with the same code as mine, ide love to try it out if someones local??? other wise im dying to get the track sometime to see what i run in general then see with or with out the chip.
