as the title states, i took my car to Granatelli Motorsports to get the new prototype coils fitted on my LS. hopefully everything goes according to plan. i believe they were still making a bracket for the coils so i'm not sure if they will be done with the car by today. chris, the tech guy said hp gain is expected but i don't really know much about that. the car will be dyno'd before and after. i will post updates as the come on this thread. the mustang piks i was refering to was for the mustang 4.6 3v engine that was right at the entrance of Granatelli Motorsports. crazy looking engine, turbo, hugh alternator, 60,000 volt coils, and a lot more as you can see from the piks, (sorry to those that are not interested in other cars but the LS but i thought it as impressive and those that do like can appreciate it.) Enjoy!

Good news. Looking forward to see if any gains are achieved. Even if old power is regained it still is a gain really.

I will order a set as soon as they are ready. Who would I contact there?

i will be posting all the contact info on this thread as well. chris said he's been swamped with requests for these coils for a long time. and he mentioned you JES_LS (as being "the guy who is always emailing him",lol). and i agree that even if they do not add hp then it will be great for it to be at it's best stock performance. hopefully this will be the end of coil problems from now on. i wish they were putting the coils from that musting in mine :D

Keep us updated.

I would let my car be a dyno mule as well if they have a dealer more in my area that was willing.

Ah what a waste, see if you can get it out of there under your shirt.

Thats sick, imagine how much the Mark guys would love something like that. I know if I had a Mark I would be drooling over it and having wet dreams about it in my Mark all night.

Quite honestly I think you need to calm down.

Bout time these things are getting some in-car testing!

I wonder if that engine would fit in an LS... :gr_devil:

Why is there a loose bolt laying next to the first coil in the 3rd and 4th pictures?

I saw you posted about the brackets were being made. Can you give us some more info about the bracket. e.g. are they planning on reproducing the bracket too?, cost, and will it effect the valve cover in any way?. thanks in advance.

as far as i know this is the only thing holding them back from production. that is the reason they wanted me to take the car in to get one physically in there and fabricating a bracket. i'm not sure if it's going to affect the valve covers though. i'll ask tomorrow when i head down that way. should have the car back by 9am tomorrow. i don't have high hopes of getting the coils all in by then but i know this is the first step towards actually going through and producing these coils. as stated b4 i will post up everything that goes on so you guys know what's going on.

so i got the coils in today and felt the difference immediately. the car has a much smoother idle now. the car definitely has much smoother shifting. before i had a fraction of a second hesitation and now that is completely gone. the car feels more firm but in a really good way. i will be going back next week to get dyno'd. (805)486-6644 is the number for granatelli motorsports and you can talk to chris, he's the tech guy. he said once production goes through everyone can call for the coils on order. i'm not sure how much they will go for but they are definitely worth it.

way to go Ric
I'm glad we got you up there.

I guess maybe somebody (finally got a fire lit under the guys at GMS)

I think that we should see if we can get a group discount from GMS since they finally put up.

And for you guys that have v6's, I'm sending a bad coil to direct to the manufacturer (that's right GMS does not make their own coils, they pay another company to make their exclusive design), so that they can pick boot and send me sample set for the v6's.
Then if I can figure out a simple bracket, we will have the other LS motor's cop problems sorted out as well.

being the one that gets his car tested on has it's risks... when i got the car today they had installed all 8 of the new GMS coils. i got the car and immediately noticed the difference in idle, much more smooth. the car had no hesitation at all now especially between shift points which was where i was getting lag. the top end is noticeable as well. the car felt more firm but in a good way. as i was telling jess_ls not too long ago, i went and started my car after work today and noticed the car was idling real hard, pretty much knocking. i was somewhat concerned but decided to go ahead and take it on the fwy. as i get to 65 the check engine light comes on and at this point i am getting kinda worried. it goes on and off throughout the trip. i couldn't stop on the side of the road because of the crazy people on the 405 and i didn't want to exit for fear that the car would die on me if i took it down in speed. as i predicted (sort of) the car was knocking real bad when i was coming to stops along the way home (felt like the car was going to turn off). no cel, so now i have to wait till tomorrow to talk to chris and see what can be done. these are the risks i'm talking about but such risks need to be taken for the product to be out there. hopefully no damage was done to my baby and i'll see what happens tomorrow and we can take it from there. as for the brackets it was no problem at all. everything looked factory and the covers were left at factory positioning. they did not dyno the car because we were going to be swaping the coils out and putting them back in to notice differences and to notice any problems first (which there are). i'll keep updates and sorry for the really long post but i know there's a lot of people out there who have a lot of coil problems and i'm trying to do my part to get the right part to the masses.

turns out it was a misfire on coil #3. chris is working on making the bracket for all 8 coils which i didn't know he hadn't done. the rest were in there by means of which i do not know, lol. as soon as he does the brackets for all 8 they will be going in again and maybe we can get some numbers on them. does anyone know what the stock temperature for the coils are when it has been driven for a while? we got some different readings when we took the coils out and was wondering if anyone had those numbers. there was like 20 degree difference from bank 2 and 3. not sure if that's normal but we are keeping a close eye on things like this. do not be discouraged on getting these coils as this are proto-types and all the kinks will be worked out.
