ok heres the story i took it in for overheating problems. they could not find anything wrong with it. that nite i parked it and the next morning there was a big puddle of antifreeze. the dealership said it was just an air pocket. 1 week later i was on the freeway and smoke was flowing out of my hood.when i got home i popped the hood and there was a really loud ticking noise from both valve covers. all my fluid levels are fine and no codes are popping up. wat could this be. the dealership says my car is fine. oh p.s. its an 01 v8 with 70000 miles

try this out

http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?p=230738#post230738, one more thing i have noticed, alot of people including myself fill the coolant and then it gets hot enough to over flow a little, or the hair line leak (like what i had spills the fluid slowly), then they think the problem is fixed until enough fluid spills out causing it to overheat again and again. check everything in detail.

ok the resevoir might be bad because there is antifreeze all over my firewall next to the resivoir and all over the hoses. next thing is wat about the tick. it increases speed with the rpms of the engine. if i had a headgasket leak wouldnt there be oil somewhere? or maybe not?

probably not a head gasket (yet), if it were, you would have some major issues. misfire, smoke, running terrible, water in oil, water mixing with gas, dont let it keep heating up though, will ruin your heads and gaskets. reservoir always cracks on the bottom, pain in the butt. there is a hose that runs from the back of the engine to the bottom of the res., takes patience and a good pair of hose clamp pliers or an extra extra long set of needle nose (thats what i used) heating of metal and cooling will cause clicking, if it is all the time then you may have more problems, hopefully not

Does anyone have a diagram of the cooling sytem or know where I can find one? Mine has spiked 3 times this month and I'm not sure if it's the thermostat or not. It's fine after I turn it off for a minute or so. It threw a code today, but I didn't get a chance to have it pulled today. I plan on doing that tomorrow. I just wanted a diagram so I knew what hoses to check and the resivor with the allen screw top. I have a 2001 v8 with almost 84000 on it.
