Recently my car alarm started going off intermittently for no reason. Would happen for around 5 minutes if I couldn't get to it in time, then would shut off only to start again quickly. This would happen in periods, but if I drove around and parked it again it seemed to stop. I thought it maybe was something to do with it being locked, so I started leaving it unlocked and it stopped. A couple days later it starts again, so it leads me to believe it's the FOB. I take the battery out of that and it subsides. Then a week and a half ago I lost my driving privileges on base, so it sat in one spot the whole time. Tried to start it today and no lights would come on in the dash and the engine wouldn't even roll over. I get a jump and it starts fine; I let it sit for probably ten minutes, drive it around for a minute and park it again.
Now I just tried to start it again to leave, and turn the ignition on and the alarm starts going off and it only rolls over for a second before it quits. Pull the key out and put it back in and the alarm stops. I try the process over again and same thing, but now the alarm won't shut off. It stops by itself, but the car still won't start.

Any ideas as to the issue? This is really going to blow if it's something major, as I'm going to be doing a cross-country drive in a week or two and this is my only vehicle. Please help dudes!

It's your battery. You need a new one. (Yes, this explains the random alarm activation too.)

Damn, really? The one I've got in now isn't even a year old.

You may have an alternator problem too. Running the battery all the way down, even if it was only a year old, did more damage to it than it can recover from.

Is it either of the correct 650 or 750 batteries for the LS with the vent tube connection?

Not sure man, I'll have to get back to you on that one. Where would it show?
Sorry if these seem like novice questions, but I am just that.

Alright, well I went and looked and it's a 1000 something or other and 850 cold start or whatever. I'm not sure what you mean about the vent tube connection, but to my defense I didn't go out there to check but to get the alarm to quit going off, which obviously it was doing again. Ugh.

Come on, guys! Every other topic on the damn page is getting posts, could I get some more love? I know you dudes know what you're talking about; do you for sure think the battery is what my issue is? I just don't understand why all of a sudden the alarm would start doing that. I can understand sitting there for a while may have drained the battery, but that still doesn't explain why the alarm is doing what it's doing.

I'd like to have a little more clarification before I go out and drop a big face on a new battery.

having a battery sit dead for awhile will ruin them. LS's do not like bad batteries. they do all kinds of weird things when the battery is going out.
joe pretty much laid it out.
replace the battery, have the alternator checked.

that's because the first response is most likely to be correct, and that need to be tested before we even try anything else.

all that behavior is common for a LS with a weak or failing battery

what they said... check the battery, if it has warranty.. warraty it out. If that fails the alternator is bad..

or both, once one goes, it usually takes the other one out if not fixed immediately
