Ok guys so there's a guy i work with he has an 06 LS V8 sport. He says how fast it is, my question, can I beat it?? My car is a 94 mark viii. I have a custom ram air inder the bumper, eliminated air silencers, LMS chip and i think the car may have the Jmod cause 1-2 shift it chirps em. My car has 138k on it, but has newer plugs and good wire still...can I beat him?

Beats me!

But I will say that if your car chirps the 1-2 it could be a broken spring. Ignore that and you will be looking for a new trans!

If you have no record of a J mod being done, then you probably still have the old 1-2 and 2-3 style accumulators. Mine banged 1-2 hard - the spring wasn't broken but the accumulator O ring was completely ripped off.

can I beat it?? ?

the only way to know is to take them to the dragstrip and find out.

there is far more to the equation than "the car".
The drivers reaction time wins races more often than the performance of the car.

do try to beat him on the street..street racing doesnt count and it's stupid.

Shall we assume no modifications on the LS?

ok guys, as for the trans, i bought the car in nov, the guy i got it from worked at a trans shop and the trans is all new. It was his personal car for about 8 months (he got a 98 black on black LSC) and he did it up with a shift kit, the deep sump pan etc, he said what he did to it i just don't remember everything...... so I would say its got atleast a shift kit atleast and not a faulty trans ad maybe even the mod done......as for the LS its BONE stock and yes I can drive my car, launch it hard and all, know how hard to not spin too much and all, so that aspect we're good on. if we went i'd prob be from a roll, but i'm just wondering. I don't want to trash talk and get whooped...hahha

if we went i'd prob be from a roll,

is this the cinnabon challenge?
"Roll Racing"?

seriously.. take it to the track.

there's no way to both get a fair even launch other than sitting still at the christmas tree..where both cars are exactly staged side by side.

Roll racing is BS, either one car or the other is gonna get/take the jump..blah blah blah.

dont street race, it's pointless dangerous and stupid
Take it to the track, it's safe and you get a timeslip that shows who went how fast and who won the race and by how much.
Timeslip will end a "who won" arguement hands down, no questions asked.

so I would say its got atleast a shift kit atleast and not a faulty trans ad maybe even the mod done

Your assuming too much, especially since it's a used car.

Just because the guy worked at a trans shop, doesnt mean that cars transmission is "built, modded or anything".
Hell.. he might have ditched the car, because of the fact that a neglected harsh 1-2 shift repair cost more than the car is worth.

Which is probably why he upgraded to the 98, with the better transmission.

I would assume NOTHING about your trans except that it's a weak unit that isn't worth upgrading.
Since the guy worked at a trans shop he probably KNEW it wasn't worth upgrading.

VERIFY there are good springs and accumulator pistons.

If the pistons are the upgraded style {post a pic of yours and we'll tell you}
then your good to go..
if it's got the stock style pistons in there.. your transmissions days are NUMBERED... and they aren't big numbers if your racing the car.

Downshifting/Roll Racing is a very good way to smoke the one way clutch in that weak transmission you have.

...you've been warned.

Not sure at the track. I'd say 98LSC32V is right drivers race. From a highway roll a stock Gen2 LS should walk on a Mark VIII with the mods you have no problem.

I'll have to take it apart to make sure, but the trans shifts too good to be busted, down shifts super fast, and all gears shift quick when i'm on it...was a totally different car from the 95 or the other 94, which I think may have the problem cause first shifts hard like yous are describing......i wasn't planning on racing him, just incase it happened i was wondering how I'd do......I'm excited for the weather to break and see what kinda times i pull....anything in the 14's I'd be happy

You dont have to "take it apart"..
You only have to drop the pan, which a fluid change at this time wouldn't be a bad idea..then take ONE C clip out and then the piston.

If you've got the upgraded 1-2 your trans is "as good as it's gonna get".

I will def have to check. He did say the accumulator was updated, but like yous said you can't believe anything people tell you....he did seem relatively honest, but I still need to check. I don't want to blow the trans into a million pieces, esp since this is a hold over mark till I can find that black on black 2nd gen for me :)

On a side note, if you don't have an upgraded trans, I have the one out of my 98LSC for sale. It was a fresh rebuild when I bought the car in April, and it has the full j-mod already done to it. The only reason I pulled it out was to convert to a T45.

Oh, and for you to walk away from that LS, I think a set of 4.10s would do the trick nicely.

He already has a chip so I would say 4.10s should do it.

True but don't expect me to see your pretty neon tail if you pull up to me on the highway. :p

Why do you think the LS is faster than a Mark VIII from a roll?
