CAI Question

Building a heat shield for the intake and I would like to draw air from somewhere near or behind the grill. I currently have a set up drawing air from the lower grill but I want it to be taken from the upper grill. Anyone have this set up or any suggestions, or pictures. I may run two flexible tubes near the back of headlight but thats just an idea. Any help would be great. I have a 2001 V6

I would say the lower grille position you have is the best spot

Upper grill doesnt have the room to do anything like that. Even if you could the tubing running to it would be too bent up and would restrict airflow.

I agree that the lower grill is probably my best bet but im just worried about hitting puddles after heavy rain, espically with all the summer rain we get here in florida.

Another item worth noting is what part of the car makes contact with the puddle? The front tires do. Where will your CAI filter be by the time that happens? Already past the puddle. Unless you hit a real big puddle I would not be worried about the rain affecting your CAI if you place it in the lower grille. If you want to be extra safe then just put a K&N Drycharger filter sock on your filter. It won't affect power and will add an extra layer of protection from rain and debris contacting your filter.

It seems I dont have much of a choice. What kind of material do you suggest for the tubing from the lower grill to my intake.

Im not looking to put the actual cone near the bottom grill I just want to use some tubing to get there air flow going from down there to there normal location of the cone.

Thanks for that. I think im going to go with the gutter extension. I had the dryer tubing and it just seemed and looked so cheap. Any tips on where to mount the end by the lower grill or what to use. I had a pretty clean zip tie job last time.

I used these two peices from autozone:

This 3" tube bends and holds its shape. Ran it from the engine bay to the lower grill.

I used this piece in the lower grill, mounted the top left hole to a bracket.

Here's a pic:

I trimmed the side of the plastic radiator shroud to fit the 3" tubing into the lower grill.
