Just looked at a Gen 2 1998 LSC Toreador Red.
The good
Lights work.
Tail lights work.
Air system intact and working.
No rust clean body.
Int Light Graphite Grey 6 out of 10.

The Bad
Needs trans it has a leak.
Needs a drivers rear view.
Drivers seat not working.
Issues with drivers door latch not working.
It has a salvage title seems like it was hit on the left side piller then fixed
It look good but needs a closer inspection it was fixed 30,000 miles ago.
It has 110 k on the clock.

Asking 2500

I guess it depends on your intentions. Are you planning on driving it or parting it out? Salvage title cars are a gamble. There are alot of out there. It sounds to me like given the condition you said it was in, and the work it needs, you should pass. Even if you fix everything and get it back to the way it should be, it will never be worth more than what you paid for it. Thats the beauty of Salvage titles.

Fix and drive would be the plan.
I have a Gen 1 now I always wanted a Gen 2.
I can do the work myself but in no hurry to buy.

mirror is $100 plus
front main seal of tran. is alot of work
seat tracks are verry costly
but you may have to wait a year for a gen to at that price w/o a salvage
If you have the parts cheep it would be a good buy

It does say asking 2500
offer $2000 or $2200 and see where he goes from there

Check your insurance to see what they charge, if they insure it at all, a salvage title, in OH it's screwy.

Door latches (if like 1st gens you usually need to replace the entire outter assebly) and rehanging door are not cheap either. also... seems like the majority of problems are on the side that was hit...I'd try to assess the repairs a little closer too (and good bargaining for lower price). yeah one more thing, base or LSC?...any pics?

Start at 1,500.00 and wear heels.

lol I would have to send my babe over in heels
The car is kinda for her anyway
It is a LSC and the body is clean it was a Neb car according to the car fax....hard to find in the rust belt.
I will have to check with the Ins company though good idea Thanks !

He is at rock bottom now "though I didnt try the heels yet " :p
It is hard to find a clean body up here thats why I willing to do the work.
If I found one in Fl. or CO. it could cost me up to $500 to fly and drive it back plus lost time at work.

I think here all you have to do for insurance is a stated value policy with you company that way if you crash it you get what it is worth

I would probally pass on it, Pics would help a lot though. Gen 2's are getting cheaper thses days. I would not mess with the salvaged title. The rule is that the car is automaticly worth 50% less.
