Found this engine on ebay.
Turned out it was local so I went to see it and bought it for 600.00(!)
The guy who sold it to me is not a wrecker but resells engines and other drivetrain components
and said it had 20,000 miles on it and the car was wrecked for a crash test or so he thought.
This thing is not siezed and so clean that it looks virually brand new with perfectly clean oil.
I putting ILLS's turbo in along with a posi rear pumpkin and plan to keep the car for years.
This will be my spare engine if/when the current engine which now has 60,000 miles expires.
Are there any differences between 04 and 05 that would cause me problems if I was to swap it in sometime in the future?
There's no accessories with this engine.
The build date in my car says 10/03 if that matters.

IdK if there are any differences, but buying a spare engine makes me envy you. Nice. The real question should be "how big of a blower can I bolt onto this thing?"

not real differences. You may have to update the PCM's base code which would take into account any minor differences.

I already have the blower and everything else.
ILLS put it together as his 2nd improved kit and ran it for a year so I'm sure it's all well balanced.

Is that something the dealer would have to do?
Do you think it would start "as is"
Don't the SCT flashers come with a general powertune that works on 03-06.
My Livewire came with an out of the box powertune but it was bad and SCT wrote me one that works great or I was going to return the Livewire to Jegs where I bought it.

LUCKY!!! lol nice buy... i need 2 of those LOL

first thing i would do to that engine is COMPRESSION check!

If that engine is going to sit for a potentially long time make sure yous tore it properly or it might not be any good by the time you need it.

I'll get an extra starter to check the compression, remove the TB and spray some light oil into the intake while it's turning over so the cylinders and pistons are well covered.

holy crap i just noticed are transmission bell housing has 16 mounting bolts to the motor? im use to the 6 or maybe 8 but damn 16?

oh and perfect time to do VCG's! LOL

so ugh, I got a car that needs an engine, wanna sell? haha. Nice buy by the looks.

The top part of the engine looks absolutely brand new in person.
It's just bogling.
Too bad forged custom internals are so expensive or I'd build it up to take 12-15 psi especially since this turbo kit comes with a great intercooler.

i dont think the block it self could handle 14 15 lbs of boost.. it would split in half...

theirs not a lot of stock V8 blocks that can handle that kind of boost... I mean :q:q:q:q i have seen stock Cast iron block 302 split with 10lbs of boost, with fully built internals!

302 blocks typically go to 5-550 crank HP before they split behind the water pump. I ran 10 pounds on my 302 with a stock crank and forged pistons....and lost a head gasket.

that's your reasoning....

not calling you out, just thought you actually had some technical reason about our block.

well just the fact that its all aluminum. 10 lbs and 14-15 lbs is to totally different stories... i see bad things from this motor with 14-15 lbs, built internals or not, 10 lbs i think your running on borrowed time... but when you want to go FAST you just about always are

internals don't reinforce the block

I mean dont get me wrong i have seen 14 lbs on a stock 302... but i also saw it blow up!

i read through your post to fast... thought you put forged crank and pistons... thats my a.d.d. acting up
