Your engine does not have VVT. Would cams from that engine work in yours? Great question. Call a dealer parts department, 800-866-1520 ext 236 , where Maxx, Mrzeee on this forum, works. I'd assume no, not the same cams. Your engine damage was limited to only the cams?
You can get custom grind cams for your car. Now, this is a perfect time to port and polish those heads. Think about it, when's the next time you'll open that motor again? Or you can save all the hassle and get a new motor, personally, I'd build that top end and call it a day.
Cams, shims and lifters. I had to take both heads out, and the oil pan to clean it up cause I had metal pieces everywhere. Now I need the cams, lifters and shims.
Ive tried to find some aftermarket cams with no luck and to be honest I cant afford dealer prices so I dont know how long Im gonna have my car like this.![]()
I hate to break the news to you, but that engine is not going to work for long without a complete tear-down. Since you removed the oil pan, do yourself a favor and remove a few bearing caps to inspect the wear and scratching of the crankshaft journals. At a minimum, you should pull all the pistons and the crank and the oil pump and get all of the metallic debris out of there. To assume that those cam followers didn't pollute that engine while they were self destructing is selling yourself short. If money is an issue, don't skimp on doing the job right. Even if you don't re-ring, or replace all bearings, simply inspecting and cleaning is the minimum. All that said, I don't see how the metal grindings did not make it into your oil supply and get pumped throughout the engine for a short, but destructive amount of time. Be careful with your decisions.
