Blackout Trim...the easy way

Another amazing touch to one of the most outstanding LSE's around here. Probably my favorite one, although there are many cool rides on this forum.

Is this still holding up well? I am wanting to do this as well!
Yep still looks great. I wouldn't have my car any other way.

Keep in mind this is 3M pin stripping made for exterior car applications, its holding up as it should.

Also, I had to buy the 150' roll, it was only $23 I think, so if I had to redo once a year I wouldn't even care. Or if you scratched one somehow, no biggie. What else on the car is that easy to fix a scratch on. It only takes a few minutes a door. Also while I haven't tried lately, I did remove one off them after a few weeks to redo cause it wasn't just perfect and it does come off, so if you don't like it you can pell it off. That said I'm seeing no signs of it coming off by itself.

Will 3/8" work for both the top and the bottom parts on the door? I think it will, but I want to verify from someone that has more knowledge about this than I.

Cause I didn't do the bottom I can't say. I think the chrome below the windows is a little wider.

did this just now

advance auto or auto zone had this 40' roll for $3.23 with tax. it was only quarter inch - instead of 3/8, so i just overlapped. only did this to see if i like it.
pictures are of before/after and product.

Hey JattGary your PM box is full.

Looks good. If you like it I do recommend the 3M kind I used, holds up very well, it looks as good today as the day I installed.

A little trick is to lay it just slightly onto the black of the molding. It seems to shrink just the slightest bit over time and that prevents the chrome from showing if it does, it falls right in place. I have a sliver of chrome showing on my pass. rear door, can't notice it unless your really looking, but I'll redo when I get to it. Not one nick or stratch yet. I actually like this chrome on the bottom look the best over chrome around on early models or all black that the newer models have. Looks stock to me.

This pic seems to show it off best.

yea i took it off after a quick ride. gonna wait til i go get the 3M product somewhere.

how bout if anyone tried to take the tape off, will it damage the chrome trimming??

I used 1/2" and it overlapped a bit but you can't even tell and I used my tint knife to trim it. The curve of the rear window was a real pain but I got it done. Of course I am kind of a perfectionist so I am sure no one else could tell:rolleyes:. I have had it on here in KC for a few months and it looks as good now as when I did it. The first time it rained it freaked me out cause there were spots on the tape from the water sitting on it:eek: but after it dried it was just fine.
