Best rim size/wheel size for racing

im going with 18x9 wheels and a 275 35 18 Nitto 555 ultra high performance on the rears.. should be delivered tomorrow:D

The stock snowflakes are very light.

Yup. I read on that other forum that the snowflakes and turbine wheels weigh around 16lbs each, the 10 spoke directionals weigh around 18lbs each and the octastars weigh in at a super light 15lbs each! Amazing the sh1t we learn... lol.

The larger the wheel, the more rotational mass which means a lose in torque. At least by the book. Lighter rims and tires can compensate for the rotational mass.

Most stock wheels and street tires weigh in at 47-50 pounds.

The snowflakes weigh 17 pounds. My Hoosier drag tires tip the scales at 18 pounds for a mounted weight of 35 pounds. That's 15 pounds less per wheel.

Using 16x4 aluminum spare rims and 5.50x16 tires in the front gives me a front wheel weight of 29 pounds with a tube. That's 21 pounds less per wheel.

The generally accepted rule of thumb is each pound of wheel weight is equivalent to 8 pounds of vehicle weight.

The generally accepted rule of thumb isn't particularly accurate.

The best wheel size for drag racing would be 15" rears, since that's the smallest wheel that will clear the rear brakes. The less wheel you have, the more sidewall you have, the more contact patch you have during a launch.

But on a 14 second car, the stock 16s will do just fine...

I weighed my 18x9 Speed Stars with 245-45's and they were about 55lbs each!!! The 15" aluminum SC spare with tire weighs about 25lbs. Thats 60lbs off the front end very easily. Im going to experiment at the track...too bad it will have to be next year:(
