Looking to replace/upgrade my rear axles while doing a hubwap. What are my choices? Thanks
I'm more then happy running two thunderbird manual transmission supercoupe "fat" axles. I've never heard of anyone breaking them. I'm sure it is possible though. Mine have new boots, it was a cheap upgrade when I broke my raxles.
Drive shaft shop level 5 halfshafts
You'll need MAD power and serious traction for a need to upgrade the axles on an auto car. There are low 10 sec Marks on stock axles.

What kind of power can the T-Bird axles take?I'm more then happy running two thunderbird manual transmission supercoupe "fat" axles. I've never heard of anyone breaking them. I'm sure it is possible though. Mine have new boots, it was a cheap upgrade when I broke my raxles.
What axles are any of the guys making serious power using anyway?Where are these cars? I have been looking like mad. I am also looking for the HP level where the stocks axles with auto ,go bye bye?

I know, im planning for serious power and possibly a 6 speed. We shall see. I'll probably just get some tbird fats (if they work and available) or the OEM fords for now
I can watch this video over and over. Here is my favorite example. This isn't his fastest but what a hole shot. But he is shifting manually and hit the rev limiter slowing him down. I think his fastest was 10.67 with stock axles. YouTube - Nissan 370Z vs Mark VIII LSC
I saw over on some tbird boards earlier searching that the passenger side manual trans birds came with a fatter axle then our stock axle. How true this is, not sure, Either way you can use the axle on either side so if you had two you'd be good to go. Where to source these besides junkyards im not sure. I guess if you found them you could have them rebuilt, but at that rate, i'd just probably have something custom made by the guys in pennsauken.
Ill be going oem ford from the guy on ebay for now its looking, he has a good price.
I'm pretty sure the 'fat' axles from the T-Bird are the same as ours, might want to check into that more?
All 5-Spd SC's had a "fat" shaft on the passenger side. But they aren't any stronger, they have the same CV joints, and shafts don't generally break, the CV joints do. The larger shaft was an attempt to minimize wheel hop and NVH.
There's always these, if your wallet is fat.
