I am considering buying a set of headers, what could you guys recommend?
What and where from, to buy?

What he said. If headers are all that you are doing, dont waste the money. Sure they will improve things a little since the exhaust is the most restrictive part of the stock setup. But more than a few went with 03 Cobra manifolds which are reported good for up to 600hp aspirated. So for stock, they are cheap (about $50 a set) and free up a lot or restrictions. Just make sure the exhaust piping is done also.

Okay thanks.
If this does not give my some hp, I will not go for it.

I would how ever appreciate if you could give me some good advice's (or a www.???) on how to get more power (appr. 500 to 700 hp, depending on the labor and cost of course..) for this engine? It is really a interesting engine. My last car was a 380 hp Cosworth (4 cyl turbo) and it was fun. But now I want to be in the V8 league. and why not rebuild the engine in this beautiful car and have some fun?

Well for starters you will want to swap to c-heads. That opens up the options greatly for adding power.

Beautiful car!
May I ask, where did you get the lowering kit? Is it still a air ride system or ?
I am still on air suspension and want to lower my Mark VIII, but I am afraid the air bags will leak. Or can I expect them to be okay? This type of car should be low as yours, looks great!

I got the new lowered coil kit off a member locally years back for super cheap. Americanairsuspension.com might sell them but its like 500+. My advice if you go the coil route is to not buy the kit. Make your own with t-bird coils aftermarket perf struts/shocks. The kit is way to soft.

Try to sensor lower it first. If they leak they leak. Then just raise it back to normal ride height or buy new bags.

First, every question you have had has been asked and answered a minimum of 100 times here.

Use Google and ask the Mark questions. 9/10 it will leed you directly to a thread here that will answer all your questions.

That being said if you want 700hp this is what you need.
1. Forged crank, rods and pistons. (good time for a stroker kit) $2000-$3000.... dont get the $2000 kit.
2. C heads with new valve springs. $400-$1400
3. Rebuilt trans with MUCH stronger internals. $2200
4. Twin screw C head supercharger like a Whipple 2.3 or larger. $3500-$6000 depending on size. 2.3 for $3500 will get you there.
5. 03/04 Cobra lower plenum, heat exchanger and pump. $800
6. SCT XCal2 and dyno time. $600
7. 60lb injectors $350
8. Dual SVT fuel pump setup and larger fuel lines. $800
9. 31 spline trac lok and 31 spline Cobra axles. $800
10. Bridge pulley setup and stacked Cobra crank pulley. $350
11. 3.5" or 4" Dennys drive shaft. $400+
12. Cobra manifolds or Kookx headers. $200-$800
13. X-pipe (or H) and 2.5" mandrel bent pipes plus mufflers. $550

There will be around $500-$1000 of misc stuff but thats close and will give you a solid 650 RWHP and be bullet proof with no worries of exploding the trans or axles or sending the diveshaft through the floor.

True.. 3,9, and 11 aren't going to give you more HP and you don't have to do them; but after you do the rest you'll wish you had in the very near future!
HP will always... Always find the weakest link.

Without #3 done you probably won't last the week before failure, and don't forget a new torque convertor. #9- I am running 28 spline axles with an Eaton setup and 3"73 gears. Cobra axles make sense if your are planning on a complete Cobra hub and brake package, but aren't totally necessary. #11 is a given when you step up the gear ratio and performance, unless you enjoy "the vibe". Exception would be a rebuilt/rebalanced 93 shaft.

Very true, I could use Google to find answers, but now you have given my something to start with, good man!
I just to have Ford Sierra RS Cosworth and I did some tune and changes on it, the car was only 2500 lbs and 380 hp. So I wanted to hear from you guys who have experience in this field before I did some research on this much heavier car, but a very nice car indeed!

This transmission 4R70W, is it a strong one? I have noticed some hesitation in mine, when going from R to D, and also I had quite a "hesitation" before it kicked in when flooring it from 4 (overdrive) down to 2nd gear. But else when driving normal it is fine, just this "hesitation". Are these simptoms typical for a bad trans or? Maybe this could be a bad diff, a bad joint? I have not checked this out yet. But I feel it could be the transmission, it also have a small leak close to the engine(bellhouse).

Thanks for your contribution.

Very useful info here for me.
I do not have the possibility to buy a lot of stuff for my car or others US cars here, so that's why I am looking for a relatively cheap solution IF (or when?) the air suspension brakes down...)
But "t-birds" coil (by that you mean shocks and springs or just the springs?)

If I could find info (list of names/types and year) on what cars I could get the suspension from, I might have a change here, there are quite a few US cars still left here...;) That would be great help for me, if these information are available.
Thanks.

Hey Northpole, glad you showed up man... welcome. :)

You're getting answers from the expert Mark 8'ers here to some very interesting questions, that the average "US joe" would be vilified for asking without a thorough search first. (gotta work on my accent)

I learn something new here everyday tho... keep up the good work guys.

Answer for your 4R70W ?. This trans is very strong and can handle tons of power when build right. Others here will say its junk and has tons of problems in pre 97 ones. You have to look at things in proper perspective. The greatest of all drag race trans is the chevy powerglide but in stock form it won't handle 1000hp but built it can handle 1500HP. Also look at it this way too. The 4R70W started life as the "AOD" then ford improved that trans and called it "AODE" then Ford improved it more and thats what you have the "4R70W". I have a Lentech Street terminator AOD in my street stang that rated to 600HP. Here is also a quote from a high HP drag racing site and this is what one 4R70W owner says.

"I run A 4R70W with a FB full manual V/B. It's one I built with Alto clutches, Kevlar band and such, PI triple disc lock-up convertor. 300+ passes since fresh, works great. My car is lighter than yours (3,200), but they can be built to last. Mine has ran 8.30's @ 167. The only bad part is that nobody makes and SFI bellhousing for them that I have found."

Thanks!

Honestly i'm not to sure on the specifics. As far as I know any coil/shock for a later model tbird is a direct swap in a mark. I was going do mine up next spring and do my research. Somebody will chime in if any modifications need to be made.

Same years Mercury Cougar is the same as the thunderbird. Thats all I think Mk8,thunderbird and cougar.

Service manual for Mark VIII 1995?

Good discussions, I see I have something to think about before making changes to my Mark VIII  I am willing to go for much more power, but first I want to drive the car more, I have just had it for 3 weeks now.

I have been searching for a good Service manual for my Mark VIII 1995, I did buy one but it is not that good.
Does anyone know of a good Service Manual on the Internet I could download, or does anyone have one, he can/would send me? (I could send my e-mail in PM)
Thanks,
sjonni
