Been beat into the ground but q on wheels

I been searching around for awhile and can't get a definite answer.. Some say 245 will fit without rubbing, some say they will rub, some say go with 235 and that will just make it.. I know it all depends on the rim..
I am looking at getting:
20"
+38 offset
8.5 wide
I think, if I could, I would want to get the wider tires.
What tires will work best with these.. I am also riding at stock height..

if u take a couple hits, it may increase your ride hieght, so there wont b any rubbing. i have 245 35 20s n i dont get rubbin at all....not even close....

49mm on the 8.5" wide Sentas.

I went with 255/35s on mine and wouldn't go any narrower or wider. They contact the wheel liner at full lock. It's not severe enough to bother me.

ok... i cant tell you that 235/35/20 wont "rub"...but here is my setup...
first i have a non-sport 2002 LS with 85,000 miles
...i have 20"x8.5" TIS 03 wheels...(discontinued by the way ...)
they have a 38mm offset wrapped toyo proxys4 size 245/35/20...

so far i like the setup..i change back to stock 17's in the winter, but ive went 2 summers on the rims so far with no problems...

however, i do "rub" in the back when i have the rims on and people in the back seat... i have 3 amps and 2 12"s in the trunk so the extra weight [ 200+ lbs. maybe?] probably dosent help, but its not that bad... i only rub slightly [the tire edge rubs on the inner plastic part of the wheelwell...] over big dips in the road, and like i said, its only with passengers in the back and its nothing that has any damaging effects or anything... i have put coil spacers in between the rear coil springs to prevent the springs from compressing as much [got the idea from QuickLS] and it seems to help...but it didnt totally fix the problem...

either way i like the wider tires and i hate being able to see the lip of the rim sticking out past the tire so im confident ill never go with 235/35 tires in the future... good luck, hope this helped...you will love the way 20's look

Wow! Those look great on that car.. Yea.. The stocks are 16s so going to 20s will be amazing.. Those rims look sooo small on my car.. Idk what kind of look I'm going for.. All chrome rims, black and chrome, all black? With a green car, it's hard.. I like the offset of yours.. They fit nicely in there.. So I would have to go with option 1 or 2.. Could 3 be machined down to a higher offset? I think 35 will stick out to far for my taste.

I'm not sure what you mean by you want the wheel to stick out a maximum of 1/2". It would not be a good idea to purposely size a wheel to protrude past the fenders, if that is what you meant.

I don't intend to come off as rude, but I'm not a fan of any of those, sorry. Option 2 would fit the best out of those options, as its dimensions has the least potential of creating any clearance issues.

Finding attractive wheels for the LS's bolt-pattern at a reasonable price was tough. I wanted to do something different, but that's where the higher price comes into play. So, I stuck with the tried and true Jaguar Sentas. I would like to have some Jaguar Vulcans, but the wheels alone cost more than what I paid to have the Sentas mounted and balanced!

Which ones did you use? The daystar ones off amazon or....? How hard was it to do? I have a hoist for 2 more months so I want to get all the things done on the hoist that I can. Week after next, start working on exhaust!!

I am stuck because of the money factor. I move out this summer and can't spend as much money as I would like to.. These were the cheap things that kind of caught my eye.. Of course, like you said, better looking comes with a price..

...and dont go with anything thats gonna stick out past the fender [ i would say anything less than a 35-37mm offset would stick out] - that looks horrible...ughh... and you might even rip your fender off if you turn the wheel too much...

check craigslist in your area for used rims if moneys tight...there is a set of 20's on criagslist in my area [that fit the LS] with tires for $1000 and they look pretty hott...

...and yea last thing, go with the chrome look...nothing looks better at night then clean chrome wheels...the black looks good, but it would of looked better if you had a black car... know what i mean =]

Thanks.. There are not many ppl around this area that have a ls and the ones that do, are pretty much stock.. I can always look and keep checking eBay and LVC. I can't buy them until midway through the summer anyways. Maybe I'll be stuck going with 19s because they have a better selection and a bit cheaper. I could then always sell in a few years when money is more readily available (which I don't think will happen.. I have a baby girl that wants EVERYTHING! )..

Looking at spending around 8-900 shipped for wheels..

The Sentas were $785 shipped. I purchased brand new Kumho Ecsta SPTs for $396, but I know someone in wholesale at Tire Rack. You could find some used tires around that price, possibly. I'd only recommend buying lightly used, though.

Were did you find them that cheap? I have been finding prices around 995 shipped for a set and 221 individual.. I also think I'm going to get new tires. I just bought new tires for the stock rims so I think I will sell them to cover some of the cost.

A 35 offset will sit right flush with the fender. I have a 35 offset on my rims with 245/35 Nitto 555 Extremes. And those tires are wide also. 245/35 is the recommended tire size is you are going with 20s. I would recommend anything under that. Check my image gallery for pics. Also some more advice " don't sell your stock rims and tires".

The size 245/35 has nothing to do with the diameter. I assume you meant to type that a 245/35 is a recommended tire size with a 20x8 or 8.5" wheel (on a Lincoln LS, at least).

Keep in mind that tire size recommendations vary per tire manufacturer, as each company may size them differently from one another. Nitto is a prime example of a tire company that tends to vary compared to others.

I found machine/black rims that I like (none of the ones above).. Do you think color matching them would look good? I know anything past 35 won't work.. I read that in everyone's posts when I searched.. LeaSr77 are you running spacers? Does anyone have an estimated price on re-drilling? Just a thought but will probably by stock pattern.. I keep seeing that when a rim is listed on eBay, they also list the 5x4.25 (5x107.95).. Would these patterns work as well?

The LS's bolt pattern is the ones you listed: 5x107.95 (or 108) and 5x4.25. One size is metric and the other is standard. Take 108/25.4 and you get 4.25. 25.4mm = 1"

I know the tire size has nothing to do with diameter. The average wheel that a person will buy for the LS will be anywhere from a 7 to 8.5 wheel. That's why that tire size is perfect. The 35 mm is on an 8.5 wheel. And true if the wheel is wider and sticks out further then an 35 mm will probably rub. But how many people buy wheels wider than 8.5 for all four corners. Yea some people do stagger fitment but that's only a few. And due to experience yes all 245/45 tires are not the same. But it has been my experiecne that all the places that know what they are talking about recommend that size. Some tires may be wider and thicker than others. This is the primary reason I went with the Nittos because they give real good lip protection and they are nice and meaty.
