I haven't been here in a couple years, since I traded away my '94 shortly after signing up. Now I'm considering buying a wrecked/salvage title '98, in order to swap the engine/trans into an '82 Capri. So I have some questions for the Mark VIII experts.

The potential donor is not an LSC. So besides the exhaust, are there any powertrain differences between a '98 base and a '98 LSC? Do they use the same PCM? And are the catalytic converters different internally, or do they just have different outlets?

3:27 gears in a LSC. Only difference in the cats is the 3rd cat is a 2 in 2 out, instead of a base 2 in 1 out.

in the lsc there is a 5.4, bigger rims (20") hydaulic suspension, a boston accoustic stock stereo system, oh wait, use the search

So do I understand correctly that in a '98 base model, the engine, transmission, PCM, and all of the wiring to make it run, are identical to a '98 LSC?

And I was asking if the rear cat is internally the same between base and LSC. I would need to adapt the Mark VIII exhaust to the fox chassis dual exhaust, so if the base rear cat is internally different, I would want to find an LSC H-pipe. If the base rear cat is internally the same, I could cut off the single outlet, but use the rest.

you would use 96-98 Cobra exhaust....you would need a subframe from a 96-98 GT, brakes booster will have to be ditched....96 and up GT and cobra hydroboost setup is ideal...ive already priced a similar swap using mostly used parts...and the tab has run over $2000 and thats without front accessories, radiator etc etc......

I've looked into the cost of the necessary chassis changes, and $2000 is a good estimate. At this point I want to be sure that a base model will be as good of a donor as an LSC... that nothing that I would use from the donor would be any different than if it were an LSC.

And if I were to follow through with the swap, the Capri would end up going to the CA smog referee. It would get a new emissions label so that it would then get smog checked as if it were a '98 Mark VIII. So I would need to use the smog-legal Mark VIII exhaust, back to the rear of the rear cat... Unless I were to try to say that the engine came from a Cobra. But did Cobras come with an auto trans? I don't know. If they did, Cobra exhaust would work. But if the Cobras were only manual, then an auto trans/Cobra exhaust combo would not be CA legal.

cobra exhaust that ia California compliant...or move to a real state

look on top theres a search option...."SEARCH"

So, rather than someone just answering my questions, I'm supposed to battle the 'search function' for an hour. Thanks so much for the help.

And to Danny_Holtermann: Maybe if you had actually read my questions, you would know that I wasn't asking about any of the BS in your response.

Only difference between base and lsc is the 3rd cat, wiring harness is the same, base and lsc have exact same motor, the only major differences in the motors are between the Gen1/Gen2....as your wanting a 98 (Gen2), either a base or an lsc will work for your project,
good luck
