Bad Week for My Mark

With a front end rebuild looming, it seems that I will never get to it with everything that has popped up this week... First the wheel hub started going on me... Got that replaced today but there has been a problem that has been nagging me since Sunday. I got home after driving around all day and the Mark ralphed its guts out all over the driveway. Well thinking that it was a bad t-stat I replaced it, refilled it and thought all was good. I took the car out on Tuesday and it was still getting warm. Went back and filled the system up just a bit more thinking that was my problem. But it is still getting way hot... Its hanging out between the "N" and "O" on the gauge and sometimes in the middle of the "N". I put a water pump in back in Jan now a t-stat. The strange thing is that its temp is fine when sitting and it cools off in traffic but when I start going and get above 60 it starts to heat up. Sorry for the long post but any ideas on what direction I should take... I think I only have two options, 1 hoses and 2 radiator.
 
I am filling it from the crossover tube... And letting it run until I see no more bubbles coming out of it... Is there a correct way to bleed a Mark?
 
under your hood, on the drivers side wheelwell is the directions for the proper procedure for refilling the cooling system. dont deviate one iota. might as well refill with fresh 50/50 coolant too.:)
 
Could it be the cap on the over flow tank since its pressurized? I remember back in the day when the radiator cap was on the radiator, if it was bad it could cause over heating.

could be a clogged radiator or a bad cap. also i can remember getting 2 bad t stats in a row a few yrs back. always test a t-stat to see if it opens before install. possibile defective water pump too if you got a rebuilt one. just a few thoughts.
 
Believe me I test all t-stats after I got a bad one a couple of years ago after that Ive been testing everyone. I think I will go for the cap its the lower costing of the two.
 
Yeah, a bad cap may cause it. Have you flushed your rad reciently?

No I have not since I cant seem to find the heater hoses and I dont know how to do it on a car that does not have a radiator cap on the radiator.
 
Might wanna flush it out. I noticed today that my friends 93 runs around the "R" and almost to the "O" when his AC is on. Does the AC make a difference?

Big difference... It seems that it runs cooler (On the bottom of the "R") when the A/C is off
 
Sounds like somethings bad in the cooling system. Since the pump and t-stat are new then it must be the rad. They do go bad.
 
I know I was just trying to avoid the expense hoping that there would be a cheep fix
 
When the radiators fail, it's usually where they press the metal fins to the plastic tanks. You'd likely see some dripping water. Have you inspected everything for small leaks?

Alot of people have trouble getting the t-stat housing gasket put together right.
Sometimes the O-ring on the crossover tube cab dries out and shrinks, needing replace.
And sometimes, it takes a lot of work and a long time to get all the air bubbles out of the system, especially after a few refills.

Preaching to the choir mang. Sometimes it seems like I have some really dumb questions when I already do know the answer but just don't wanna admit to myself that its really the problem. My rod knock is a prime candidate. I just wasted $200+ on a fix hoping to save $1000 and look where it got me. Fortunately radiators arnt that bad. Wish that was my problem. :(
 
50/50 coolant is not needed for hot climates. I'd go with more distilled water and less antifreeze if I were you. I personally have a 70/30 mix (70% distilled water / 30% antifreeze) with a bottle of watter wetter.

Water wetter works best with water (keeps temps cooler) hence my higher water to coolant mix. Don't be fooled if people say that's bad for the motor...it definitely is not. Now in a northern car I would go 50/50 because they get freezing temps often.

But being that you live in Mesa you need to acclimate it to your temps.
 
disconnect the top radiator hose, insert garden hose, disconnect bottom radiator hose, turn on water to garden hose, enjoy a cold beer, remove garden hose, install top and bottom hoses and refill system.
 
I had the same problem. When I installed my trans cooler I found the radiator was full of cottonwood tree fuzz. We lived close to a river an it looked like ti was snowing at times. The fuzz had passed through the air conditioner condenser and had gotten stuck in the radiator. I could not tell until I lossened the radiator and leaned it back. Cleaned it out with a garden hose. Runs around the A to R now. I hope this is a cheap and easy fix for you. Good Luck!

I heard about you're problem, that sucks... Well Im going to try the flush and then I will go get the radiator if that does not help

That just might do that... A cold beer on a warm day cant beat that.

Wow I forgot about the water wetter! Ive ran that in a few of the muscle cars Ive owned in the past.
