Autozone has hit Rock Bottom for me today!

So I go into Autozone as I needed Rubber Radiator mount bushings as I was putting a big 4 core one in place of the puny 2 core rad.
I show him this rubber bushing in the pic next to my keys.

He goes on the PC and asks me does it look like this?

Seriously I just showed him the rubber bushing and he asks me if it looks like the fan spacer...I was like where are the camera's cause I must be on one of those stupidest conter people TV shows or something :confused:

Seriously how does Autozone expect to stay in business if they keep hiring people like this :shifty:
 
Most of the guys working at my auto zone are pretty knowledgeable. There is one guy i avoid, but it's because he's an obnoxious guido.......:cool:
 
This Azone is one of the bigger stores that all the smaller ones send you to as they have all the room for parts and stuff. Normally there are some knowledgeable guys there and a few motorheads but now all new faces.

Obviously not a bright group either :rolleyes:

I had to get something from an autozoe once, I can't remember now what it was, but they had 1 in stock according to his computer. He tells me that they only had 1 in stock and asks me if I would like him.to order 1
So I just mean eyed him and told him to go get the one off the shelf that he had in stock

Yeah I kinda did the same. When he asked me does it look like this I held the rubber mount and looked across it at him and said does that look like this :mad:

Then he came out with "You should go to the dealership" :slam
 
autozone is fcking garbage

go online to advance auto.com and know what your ordering, do it online with promo codes and they will beat nearly everyones prices WITH the high QUALITY parts, better prices then napa, rock auto, and ebay half the time...just use the promos, they always have one going...

Gotta look up the parts yourself, counter guys these days are fcking idiots.
 
Well finally found em but problem is they are all small like the ones I have. I am swapping in a big old 4 core radiator to prepare for the 502 swap and the rad is at least an inch thicker in thickness at the tanks.

Nobody seems to have these rubber pads anymore and I havent had any laying around for a decade or 2. It sucks cause I remember this was so just decide to do this swap in a weekend and now it's trying to find simple parts with people not understanding :confused:
 
Hate to revive an old thread but I worked for AZ for 5 years. They've weeded out pretty much all of the old school type gear heads that actually work cars. Im am an ASE Certified parts tech, which pay wise, didnt mean jack ish to the company. They frowned upon the small talk conversations about people's projects, they frowned upon going outside to check really nice customer cars and they frown upon going outside of what was inside the computer. That's why most guys and gals who DIY their own rides do not respect the avg AZ employee. So you posting the mishap isnt a surprise at all to me because I saw it everyday and became the go to guy for random part questions and identification. It got so bad that I would get calls on my day off about things. In the district where I worked there were only 2 ASE certed staff at my store. One guy who drove a procharged 5.0 Lx notch and me who at that time drove a Turbo/Methanol Turbo Buick Grand National. The easiest way to ID a decent AZ is to know what kind of cars the staff drive. PERIOD. To make a long story short, our district manager at the time took the ASE test 5 times an failed 5 times...so out of the gate I knew my employment was never about knowledge it was about numbers. Thats why the parts lookup program was implemented and refined to what it is now. Take the computer away and I bet you maybe 1 guy in the store will know how to use the paper catalogs. Business wise it was smart to weed out higher paid parts tech but from a loyalty standpoint true customers who know better are lost....and they lost me too.
 
I try and find the single store guys, pay a little more but they know what the hell I'm talking about. Nothing wrong with being an AZ employee, you tried.
 
Supposedly, and I am sure this is true, there is this guy at our local O'reilly parts store, who had to ask my friend who made the Mustang, Ford or Chevrolet? Yea, who the hell hired you, and why? =/
 
I seriously watch the guys behind the counter asking questions like that. What is an "Impala" :confused:

I tried to get a job there between lay offs and the 3 times got absolutely nothing back from them. That and the mangers of the stores wanted me to work there. Corporate seemed to have it in for me?
 
Years back I needed some cash & I got a second job working the parts counter at the local Pep Boys. I used to love it when the knowledgeable car guys would come in expecting to have yet another encounter with an idiot when they were looking at parts for their cars.

I remember one fellow in particular came in looking for a Parking Light Bulb for a 1955 Thunderbird. I asked him if I could help him and he said 'probably not" I replied "Try me". He said he needed a Parking Light Bulb for a 1955 Thunderbird and I replied that Pep Boys unfortunately didn't carry 6 volt bulbs. He perked up and said how the heck did you know it was 6 Volt? I replied; because Ford didn't switch over to 12 volt until 1956. He said; where in the world did they get you from? He was pleasantly surprised. :) He told me he had converted to 12 volts and I told him 'Oh, then you need an #1157 Bulb. Blew his mind. He said he hoped I would be around for a while.

I didn't make much additional money, but I really enjoyed helping my fellow car nuts out. :cool:

Stories like that are what made the job fun. I live in Palmdale Ca the old home to the legendary LACR Raceway which is now a rock quarry and Willow Springs which is still open. Anyways, every other home out here has some type of hotrod, bagged this or that, lowrider, import or Harley. People around here turn wrenches and theres a lot of baby boomer guys who used to come to the store driving everything imaginable. Those are the guys I liked talking to because they lived thru an era that gives me car envy.

The easiest way to expedite service thru AZ or any other big box autoparts store is to research the part online and purchase it on line if you have the means. Another alternative to it is to call the store, verify availability, place a hold on the part so its picked....thats if your call is not routed to AZ's call center in Chihuahua, Mexico.
 
I went to Auto Zone looking for a 90 degree elbow piece for a vacuum line. I brought in the whole vacuum line with me, and I was greeted by this girl who looks like she just graduated from high school, she took one look at the vacuum line and asked me what kind of spark plug wire I needed. The thing that really pissed me off was that last summer while my wife was off of work, for three months recovering from her surgery I tried like hell to get a second job at AZ, or Advance Auto, but no luck.
