My 00 LS is a 5 spd manual and has the console with a single drink holder. I want to get a two drink holder console but am not sure if the shifter hole is the same from auto to manual consoles. I know there is a traction control button, I'll eliminate it or replace it with something else.

I searched the forums but came up dry.

Can anyone tell me?

I think so. Here is a picture of the two next to each other. I did the 2002 center sole up-grade years ago. I did have to switch over the arm rest. The gen 1 and gen 2 as you can see were a different color. Easy direct swap.

That looks like auto to auto, I'm trying to verify if the shifter cutout on an auto is the same as for a manual trans shifter...

Any chance one of you fine fellows with an auto trans could get me measurments outlined in Red an Blue on this image?

Would you want the measurements for the gen 2? I can get you the gen 2. I would get you the gen 1 measurements. BUT I gave my old gen 1 console to a member that needed it.

Gen 2 measure ments:
The red measurements are 6 inches in length, 3 inches to 4 3/8 inches from narrow end to larger end.
The blue measurements are one inch frotn to ash tray, 1 inch rear to armrest, 1 inch to driverside, and 1 3/8 inch to passengerside.

Hope this helps. The gen 1 to gen 2 console swap is a direct swap. No changes are needed. So I can assume the measurements are the same for both consoles.

This should be a good start for me since the Gen 1 to Gen 2 swap is direct. Thanks much!

Actually, the console tops aren't even close. Neither is a direct swap for the other. The openings are COMPLETELY different.

The '01-'02 is a direct swap into the '00. There will be a little gap (on my black interior pretty much unnoticeable) above the hand brake; as shown in Rollin's 3rd picture.

OK...then it's back to the Gen 1....can anyone provide the same measurements for a gen 1 auto console?

I get 1 1/4" front of opening to ashtray surround and 4 3/4" at the top, widest point (red). I also have 8" from the rear of the opening to the base of the armrest; where the top curves up. The rest of the measurements are the same.

Thanks much! I'll check mine out tonight! My only other "solid answer" would be for someone that has access to factory part numbers to see if the PN is the same for an auto & manual on a 2000 LS. Anyone? :)

Check here. This is a good site for exploded drawings and part numbers. It also gives you an idea how much stuff is no longer available. Click on "get info" for more info. Keep clicking and you'll get to large exploded drawings

That site is the kats-azz, man! Looks like they carry the same PN with the only difference being the three letter suffix, which I assume is the color code.

SWEET! :Beer

got my used console today. Color matched perfectly. An auto console will work just fine in a manual trans car. You could probably get away with using only the top but some of the retainers for the top won't line up. The auto upper cover is provisioned for the extra cutouts to the left and right of the shifter opening as well as the push through retainers that holds the manual shifter boot. I suspect this is for the side to side shift throw.

I have not cut that out yet and don't think I will need to because there is plenty of room from side to side. I'll drive it a few days and see before I secure the boot. The retainers broke off of mine some time ago so I will use a sylicone sealer to secure the boot ring. It's worked for a few years, should work just fine again. I'll try to get some pics posted for those interested in swapping.

Please post pictures. That would really help any members in the future that have the same questions.:)

My retainer clips on the shift boot have broken and I had the dealer replace the shift boot about 6 times while it was under warranty. They have broken again and when they do I just use an plastic epoxy and glue them back on. They have broken again, but at least I can take the shift boot apart.

The reason for the breaking is that the shifter has a slight angle in it. The factory line workers did not realize this and I suspect many of the shifters were installed backwards. If you look at the shifter it should bend over to the passenger side to clear the shift boot plastic backer. I have even taken a Dremel to the plastic to enlarge it in the area where the shifter goes into reverse, first and second. That seems to be when clips break for me. If your shifter is on backwards (pointing slightly to the drivers side.) you will need ot get under the car and remove the end of the shifter from the shift rod and just spin the shift lever 180 degrees and reattach it. This will help with clips breaking in the future.

Good to know. To retain mine, I applied a small bead of black silicone sealer (RTV) around the edge of the shifter opening on the console and with the car in neutral, set the boot mating edge onto the bead of sealer. I used duct tape to hold it in place overnight and has worked great. This is the second time I've done it and it witholds the severe cold winter temps of Wisconsin without coming one bit loose.

Seperating it the first time was as easy as running a small straight blade screwdriver between the console an boot surfaces.
