Just picked up some strutmaster smsp 3 coils for up front. Its the whole assembly. I am getting rid of my air :( (moment of silence)
for some dropped coils. I hate to do it, but with a wedding in April and lots to do I have to coil.

They are the red springs (don't know if it matters) and looks slightly used. I really don't want a stock height mark. I went as far as drilling my air shock mounts higher to bring the car lower and buying new '89 T-bird shocks for the rear to have my mark 1/2" total from the ground.

I'm hopin and prayin someone is out there!

These look dang near impossible to cut a half coil out of. I'd rather not do it to these.

I'm considering cutting a loop from my coils both front & rear on my BoB. Would you do that?

I did that with a friend of mine back in 1999 to a 4dr Honda Accord. It didn't bounce at all. What are your thoughts?

I want to cut half a coil at first, install then see the height. I'll most likely go lower. But, I want to see first. Every car is different because of sprig rate. Typically every coil is 2".
I've cut many a coil in my life, I just don't see how to get the coil off of the shock. Unless that's what the nut is up top????

You will need to take them to shop that has a spring compressor, I would say a full coil out of a SM kit would probably be fine since they seem to jack a Mark up higher than stock in the first place.

I am not sure you will find too many folks wanting to swap SM springs for lowering springs but good luck.

we have a spring compressor at work so I might get them to take care of it.

When I bought my lowered kit for my late '93 it came disassembled. I asked my neighbor (local mechanic) for his spring compressing tools. He has 2 of them. It took me about 2 hours to completely compress both front springs but it can be done. Granted, his tools were pretty rusty so they took longer to work with.

I think Autozone rents out spring compressing tools.

Here they are on ebay for DIRT cheap!

Guys, just a word of caution. Those tools like Alex posted are dangerous to use. I have a set like that and the springs have come out on me before. I will never use them again, but I have access to a strut tool mounted on the wall at work.

Yep I hate those stupid things more dangerous than anything. I don't use a tool at all but I have been bitched at about my method so....use a wall mounted compressor.

Fwiw, the aas kit was a reg kit with xx coils cut off. The springs in that kit weren't special at all (As I had initially thought). I say have the guys at work take them apart (Nut on top) and chop a coil off. I can't recall exactly how much the owner of aas said they were cut(It was a while ago) but i'd imagine the same effects would be had with the strutmasters kit as i'm pretty sure those are the ones he sells. If you search his posts you might beable to find the answer.

Edit: Post 6 has your answer

That's scary... Especially since one of the coils was in my office room in my house overnight:shifty:while it was compressed!:shifty:

I've used the spring compression tools before but it's been quite sometime, and very dangerous for sure. A friend of mine at the shop has a wall mount. I'll buy him lunch or something.

They don't look too used. In not sure how many miles are on them. And I also don't know what they are worth right now.

if you decide on a price PM me...I need to do a conversion on my white Mark

My buddy that bought Jackson's 93 wants stock height, that car has 2" drops on it.. wanna trade him?

I sent him a text, he's a 3rd shift worker, so he may not be awake yet

Update: he says even thou he complains of dragging the exhaust tips, he wants to stay dropped
