So I installed a Clifford alarm in the '94 TBird without a hitch. I'm using the remote-start on it as well. This car, of course, is old school. No factory alarm, no PATS.

I would like to install the same alarm onto the '97 Mark. I am thinking I would need to by-pass the PATS so the remote-start would work, as well as the factory alarm.

Another worry is that this could affect the door keypad to unlock the doors / pop trunk / unlock passenger door. I would love it if I could use the keypad to disable the Clifford alarm.

Anyone have any tips/suggestions?

I have a viper on my gen 2(without remote start).factory alarm still works as well as the door keypad

When using a Remote Start on a Gen 2, you need the 556U Module.

laser had a clifford alarm on the black second gen that he got when he traded his white one.

I'm running a clifford (wo way with a mile range remote start. Works great, and factory stuff and doorpad still work, I did need both keys and a module for the remote start to work.

An extra key is needed when using a remote start. The key don't have to be cut, it merely has to be a key that has been programmed to the Pats system. Any locksmith can do that. If you are going to have a remote start installed, you should have the spare key cut before you go to the installation shop.

I have installed a few over the years. And as pointed out you need a second ket that gets attached in the dash so the PATS is bypassed. I dont care for aftermarket systems in the Mark for a couple reasons. And this may have just been me doing something wrong. One was the mirrors pussle lamps would not illuminate when disarming the system. The other is if the alarm is armed and you use the keypad then the alarm would go off when unlocking the doors or poping the trunk.

The factory alarm works well, makes noise and cant start the car. Has all entry points protected. What I like to do is wire a shock/glass breakage sensor into a door trigger and that will set the alarm off if someone smacks the car or tries to jimmey the door open. It also turns on the puddle and interior lights when it triggers the OEM alarm.
You could even hook up a timed relay to a siren to the horn so that when the OEM alarm triggers the horn it will also trigger a siren.

I agree with Laser on this, I have an aftermarket system as well. The remote start is nice and the long range remote as well. But, my puddle lights don't work either. I can pop the trunk etc, but if i unlock it using the keypad the alarm goes off. When i swap my interior over i don't plan on using it again.
