Has anyone put a 3.9 V8 into a 5 speed V6 LS? My buddies father worked for FORD and had stories that they put V8's in and kept blowning the 5 speed stock/planned trans.

I would think putting the 5 speed into a V8 LS would be easier than V8 into a V6 5sp.

As for holding up, I've heard nothing of Gen2 5 speeds burning up anything more than clutches and universal joints, they're only short on the Gen1 V8 by 20HP and I don't see 20HP being the make or break point in them.

the Getrag 221 is only ratred for 240ft/lbs of torque - over the V6 but well under the V8's output. Not to say that you could not strentghen the internals as a one-off project, but for a OE manufacturer it was impactical. As stated above, the dealers to Ford there was no demand for a manual V8, hence the lack of development.

There are many threads on this... but in short:
- custom bell housing
- custom PCM tune (if even possible) - the big issue
- custom drive shaft
- custom gearbox mounting
- swap wiring harnesses - mating V8 harness with manual transmission
- exhaust swap
- all the bits with the engine swap....

I think the biggest issue would be making the PCM think everything was okay even with the Automatic missing.

Agreed, but honestly if someone were to test the output of the sensors and relays and such on the auto, it would likely be fairly simple to reproduce the signals sent to the PCM with standalone plug in devices that would mimic the signals from an auto tranny.

How awesome would it be for Ford to give us a PCM that they tested for this application.? Considering the car is discontinued. Someones kid in Michigan should be able to get their dad to hook them up with a unit left around... lol

that kind of stuff happens here....
