Hey guys, im looking for someone to sell me a decent mark viii for about a $1000 and im not looking for anything fancy.

About six months ago my wife was driving the mark and ran the car off the road on to a ditch and a goodthing she is ok, and long story short the frame is bent, trunk is worped, pass fender damaged and the front end is shot:eek:. Ever since then iv been drivin a minivan and im not to happy.
Before the incident took place i've had the mark for a little over 7 years and been a proud owner:). I usually read up on everyone's threads and i learn alot from reading the post. I don't usually key in cuz the majority of the subject is already explained for, so if anyone here's or see's a mark for around the price range please let me know...THANKS

$1000 will get you a POS Mark VIII. If you are looking for something you plan on working on constantly, then that is what you will get. Now if you want trouble free, Blend door works, no broke door handles, new front end, good headlights, decent stereo with Ipod/Navigation/Bluetooth/XM, Black interior with Gen2 seats, then $3700 will get you that.

I disagree. If you look, $1,000 will get you a very solid first gen, with maybe a couple small maintenance or cosmetic issues or high miles. I sold one for under $1,000 that was mechanical great, except some clear coat issues.

If you genuinely want a Mark VIII, I suggest you look in Florida and drive it home.

i sold my 93 to rich for 900 bucks and its far from a pos. i also wasnt looking to get rich selling it, and i sold it to a good friend, so he had a few things going for him when i sold it to him! you will have a hard time finding a nice gen 2 for a grand, but you can find a decent gen 1 for a grand.

I Know what your sayin GMAN but if i did have that much saved i probably would consider on buying it or perhaps buying a different make or model

I know i just missed that one and i recall awhile back jamie sold a silver mark
a few months ago and it was pretty clean but during that time there was nothing wrong with my mark

Check Cl every day and look at a lot of cars you can
Find a nice gen1 for around $1000
Got my 95 for $1115 black on black 130k good clear coat

I bought my 97 black on black base in sept of last year for $800. It needed a new driver rear brake line, old one was rusted to death through, an oil pan and driver door handle. The clear coat is shot also.

If this is going to be a project.. then yes buy one... you want reliable... i know i hate to say it but look for a little Jap car.. My hyndai is bullet proof, no problems mechanically for 3 years now.

Check CL up in the hudson valley, it's not that far from you. I see them up here once in a while. I just found a very decent gen 2 for my friend with 66k for 1 grand

Why say this in 8 years with my 97 the only problems
I have had were caused by me (crash and flood).
Its just as reliable as any JAP car and its fun to drive.

I've bought 3 Marks in the $1k range, seen, ignored, and declined to make an offer on several more. My three were decent cars for the price, a great running, OK looking '93 for $900, a great looking, OK running '95 for $1600 and my '97 for $1k on the nose. ALL of them needed about an extra $5-800 in repairs to be "nice", but all were driveable. That said, with all the time, effort, and extra cash I've tied up in my '97 it's way easier to just spend $2.5k for a nice car instead of pinching pennies at the beginning.

My '97 has cost me $1k purchase plus $~850 in repairs and extra stuff making it nicer. I had to reassemble the interior, rebuild the front end, rewire the radio, convert it to springs, and then troubleshoot a terrible idle/driveability problem. There's a few issues still being tied up soon here, but I'd have never done 1/2 this without the time and effort and cheap labor of our very own Jamie. In the mean time, between repairs I have done lots of little stuff to get it caught up on lacking upkeep. Jamie and I made it a damn nice ride for $1850 total dollars, but the time is worth lots more, because without it it would still be parked in the grass; pancaked, filthy, and dead. I'd sell it today for the right price, a car is a car, better to make money now than junk it one day worn out. But, I wouldn't let it go under $2700 because all of the time and effort Jamie and I have put into it has made it into a very well maintained and decent car.

Thanks for the advice guys and today i was soo busy painting the rooms in my house, im so tired i can't even talk ...lol
Tomorow im gonna start doin the search and at the same time im waiting for my taxes which im only gonna get alittle over a thousand but in the mean time if anything does come up PLEASE let me know
thx

All im saying is upkeep on an import is super cheap, you are looking for a 1000 dollar mark. you are going to get a 1000 dollar mark. how much did you pay for your 98???

I paid 12,000 for my 97 and just so you know I can
get a Gen 2 front bumper NEW from keystone for $600
And for a DD I can find a color matched bumper for $150
They are cheap DDs I drove my $500 mark for a year no problems
Sold it for a profit now I have the 95 DD and have had no problems

My buddy's 01 civic has killed any car I've owned in maintainance costs, it was in good shape low miles. He bought it from a dealer for way too much money. Tons of upkeep and repairs, then, right when he wanted to sell it, it blew the headgasket.

As a car guy with a short attention span, I've owned 75 cars give or take 1 or 2, near ALL of them under $1500, including a small handful of non-domestics. Most have treated me well, most were high mileage, most were well-worn to beat, with a few very nice ones, all but a select few made me a profit, and many were good cars to drive daily. I had a few beaters and lemon condidates, but the imports (Japanese and European as well) were nearly all on the list, the BEST non-domestic car I've owned was my '89 Volvo 760 Turbo, the WORST was a tie between an '88 accord or an '89 Supra.

I love cheap cars. It's almost a hobby for me to go through lots of low-price cars and drive 'em until they die or I get tired of them. The best car ever value-wise was a '94 Towncar, coolest was a Black '98 Trans-am convertible, most practical was a '94 Crown Vic, oddest was an '85 Peugeot 505 STi, the most impractical was a tie between an '85 Bronco II on 11'' lift and 36'' tires or a '73 Cutlass S with a built engine and trans, the lamest was a Saturn SL2, the highest mileage was an '88 Cherokee Pioneer 4x4 (300k), the lowest miles was a '90 Bill Blass Mark VII (40k). Last but not least, my 3 favorites have been the '95 Eddie Bauer Bronco, '98 Grand Prix GTP sedan, and this '97 Mark VIII. I have pics of many of them.
