Thinking about getting my own scanner for when I get CEL's. My Navi is missing and the light won't stay on. Got it to come on once but that was at 12a. Next day it was off and the truck ran fine. Looking for one but I want to make sure it's compatible with Lincolns.

I think thats OBD 1.

The Actron CP9150 is a good scanner that does OBD 1 & 2... I have one myself for my folks newer Saturn and Ford and my own older Ford and Lincoln... I got a brand new one that had all the updates for just over $100 on eBay.
Most scanners under about $200 are similar with what they do. If you want to get into one that BCM codes etc, then your $450+++

Most scanners available in parts stores are obd2 which works on all cars newer than 1996 and some 1995s. For cars older than that they are manufacturer specific but most of those cars have "cheats" to get the codes without a scanner. Not being funny but does the 82 Olds even have an engine computer???

I've got a Hickok NGS, and a SCT X3. I think you can find OBD scanners on EBAY for less than $100.
