It IS possible.

Just need the correct kit.

I have loaned this out to quite a few members here. You needing it?

Yeah, I'd love to borrow the kit. Where can I get the proper insert?

Your pic showed cam cover off. May go ahead and pull cover(s), I think I have an intake gasket leak as well. Rough idle I have been chasing since i bought the car over 35k miles ago. Replaced a couple vacuum lines that were cracked but they were no help. I swear I can hear leaking up front around alt, so I think that's it.

Had number 6 helicoil last years cost me 300. been running fine for a year but i think peice of the spark plug fell in and the car smoke at start up but run great......i wanna sell the car but no buyers

You could try to spray carb cleaner around the intake. Should notice a change in idle if u spray in the leak

I had to get this done on my 4.0L SOHC Explorer a few years back; I was much more comfortable having a mechanic do it, seeing that filings could drop in, and the angle needs to be just so. I was only charged an hour's labor plus materials (the threaded insert plus a new plug), and it was very very worth it.

Just my $.02. :)

did mine in the driveway using the helicoil thread insert "not coil spring" kit.
Worked like a champ and lasted for well over 200K

I used the timesert kit on mine. did it in the driveway and didn't remove the valve cover. I went very slow, but now I could do it all in an hour. Just fill the flutes with grease, it catches the chips. I taped a vacuum hose to the end of my shop vac to vacuum any other chips out. I also had a boroscope to look for chips in the cylinder, but none never made it in there. That was 2 years ago, still running like a champ. I did read the helicoils are not as robust of a repair.

Took it to a local shop and got a sert installed. Cost $260.

Have a miss now, checked plug wire that blew off and it looks good. Went to put it back onto the plug but I don't think it's going on all the way. The wire inside the boot is not making contact with the plug. They said they put a different style plug in, has a full thread shank, like used in a Ford truck.

Anybody that has done this, what plug are you using? Need to get this taken care of, car is going to be driven to FL in Jan.
