Went to get my studded snows on today, get to the shop, the aluminum rims they are mounted on corroded and caused the beads to leak, the stems were bad, took 30 min to get each tire rim cleaned enough to seal the beads, previous owner had put slime in the tire. I never knew it. looked like antifreeze when it was all said and done.. anyway, we go and put the car in the air, since I am having the trans swapped (hopefully weather permitting) Tuesday, never really gave much thought to anything else, Well, just for Sh!ts and giggles:D I asked to check the D/S, man the u joints are so loose he's surprised I got as far as I did. Well hope my luck holds out till Tuesday as I still have approximately 200 miles left to drive over the weekend and Monday. I would have to assume this is originally caused buy the Trans going and sending the vibration all the way down to the shaft.

maybe its just coincidence that they both failed at the same time. either way at least I know neither one will be an issue in the near future.
I really Picked a hell of a time, I just sold off the 1 piece 93 shaft, two months ago. go figure. I'm not doing gears right now so I'll hunt for one later. I'm thinking of doing 3:73's when that time comes. I have the T-Lock and 3:55's sitting in my shed for a year now, just never did anything with them. Since I've already replaced the trans (soon to be anyway) I will save for the new ring and pinion and do this later on..
Let me clear this up a hair, I have Stock gears 3:27's its the LSC, I have a set of 3:55's in the shed on the Tracloc but if and when I decide to up the gears I think I may just go to 3:73's instead, don't really know if going to 3:55's are worth the effort of rebuilding the rear..
the 98 trans and updated TC may even be enough of a seat of the pants increase as it is, especially with the j-mod. so I may not even do the gears. trying to keep mileage.
anyway enough ranting and post whoring..
Have a good day..
Bill

Thats OK cause when I went to Pep Boys cause they were the only place around with tires that were the same size as my M&S's on the rear. Well those idiots took off my M&S tires and put the new tires on my rims backwards!

I had to bitch and moan so they would look for my tires they just took off and and they put them back on. Of course they put them on my chrome rims instead of the painted rims I had them on for winter driving

I don't know how much of a difference your going to feel between 3:55 and going to 3:73 gears? Ya might wanna just throw the unit in like that and save some money

updated my original post.. I have stock 3:27's I do own a set of 3:55's but if I go up in gear I think I will just move to the 3:73's

I did 4:10 Track Loc and regretted not going with the 4:30's.

Don't know if you have a long comute but the 4:10's were fine on the highways and I was still pulling great MPG with em ripping around

Bill, do you have a local shop around there that doesn't charge by the minute that could put some U-joints on for you? When I was around 10 or so, I saw this car on South Parkway in Huntsville, AL. driving across an overpass and his DS came off in the front and the ass end pole vaulted that car straight over. Ever since I saw that, I have always been worried about that happening to me "freak accident"

Maybe without the vibration, you could possibly live with the slight shudder till next month or two when it warms up and knock out the trans swap yourself. Just an idea. I'm all about saving cash if at any way possible.

4'30 gears are probably great in NJ but in Florida and less populated areas 85-90 is about what people run on the interstate to keep from getting run over that high a gear would really have the engine singing .if i drove in town I'd run 5'38 s.

Yeah sorry but that is about the cruising speed on Rt78 or Rt18 when I head for Spring Lake in South Jersey. Most of the places in Fla I've been are SLOW but that cause my family down there are in the Crystal Island Gulf Coast side.

I've already informed DLF about the D/S, he has one from a 98 and he's going to put it in so I'll just give him mine, that should be acceptible. wont cost me much then.
I just have to make it to him thats all, and now to top this, there is a stong threat of sever weather (SNOW) in the forcast, I have already gotten permission to miss the day of work to do this. Tuesday is the only day this week I can get it done. I Really hope that its not going to push this further into the following week. I would have no other option but to get the D/S done at that point.

Again, I appreciate the offers.
Thanks
Bill

Sorry for all the Poor me stories... just seems to be the way of the last 2-3 months though.:(

Same here but I would put on larger tires 295-45-17 M/T so it would end up about the same as 4:10 on stock size tires.
