Hello everyone,

I have been searching for my answer here for the past 4 hours, but I haven't really found an answer so I thought I would just ask. I am new to the LS world, but I've been messing with fords for the past 10 years now. I was wondering if anyone knew if the K&N intake kit for the 3.9 t-bird would fit with slight modifications? I'm trying to keep it as stock looking as possible but with the highest performance gains attainable. It is an 06 sport with 34k miles. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Also anyone have any tricks or other suggested mods? It was a lot easier finding parts for my 93 cobra or 04 svt focus than it is for the ls.

Performance Mods

Because there is a dearth of internal parts readily available, performance enhancements mostly fall into the bolt-on category. Cat-back from Magnaflow---fits Gen2 with modifications---and opening up the filter/intake tract is very common. Spray, at least up to about 150 HP is also quite common. Quik LS has built a supercharger set-up and he is waiting for enough orders to build a short run of kits. Ills did a turbo installation and others speak of doing some sort of parallel effort. A perusal of 'Land Speed LS' in the HP section will show slow progress toward a comprehensive performance build. Enjoy! And Welcome !!

Yes, it will fit with no modifications. Many have them. There are 2 that fit. One says it will give you 14.8 hp and the other says 13.5 or something like that but I dont know if thats true or what the actual differences are. The only difference I see is that one is black and the other looks the chrome. I have the chrome one and like it better than the black one. The black one blends in too much with everything else in there and the chrome makes the engine bay look nicer.

Makes it sound alot nicer. Can't feel performance though. Maybe accompanied with an exhaust.

The exhaust on the 2nd gen was optimizes, little gain in performance changing stock other than sound, 3-4 hp.

The tune will improve throttle by wire response and shifts, combine with the CAI you will feel the performance improvements.

Torrie of fastpartsnetwork.com did mine, as you can see in my signature, another member ILLS also has done some of our members LS, try doing a search for SCT Xcal, a LOT has been written on this subject.

Car looks great man.

I'm sure by now u have removed that front plate.

And welcome! :)

The butt meter seems to say it pulls a little harder but that has yet to be verified at the track. It's quite a bit louder in a good way. I forgot how much louder until I was in my buddys LS the other day.

sorry for all the questions guys, but any idea what this thing should run stock vs what it would run with intake and a tune? I'm guessing maybe 14.9-15.1 stock.. am I ballpark here ?

- mike

Instead of spending and wasting much money on exhaust system just replace the end mufflers with straight pipes and 4" tips.
It's hardly any louder than stock and makes the car sound that much sweeter.

Welcome aboard. Good lookin LS there.

Every LS is gonna be different, but in stock form it's around 14.5.

You know, I heard that. I spun the tires yesterday morning (AdvanceTrac engaged) taking off from a stop on the on-ramp. I know it was a little wet, but I never expected spinning the tires going straight.

Come on now! The LS isn't THAT slow lol.

I can spin them on dry pavement from a stop easily and I have brand new tires hardly a month old. I want to
do exhaust next but I can't decide what to do. I kinda wanna do magnaflow with stock resonator delete but can't decide.

I felt a performance gain from the cai. Not a lot but enough to be felt

plus an x-pipe

So just get mufflers and the x pipe and tips? I'm not sure bow exhaust kits work. But ihought hey came with all new pipes. Or does it even matter versus the stock ones.

Sorry for the fail typing. I'm on my phone ;(

Cat back kits do come with new pipes but you can get an exhaust set up for way less than the 700+ magnaflow set up. It comes with resonators and you dont want them and it doesn't include an x-pipe.I just bought 2 magnaflow mufflers, an x-pipe, 4'' tips, for 396 shipped. Installing it all with new pipes would prob be like 100 150 tops so I just made my own set up for 550 tops saving me 150.You dont need new piping if you aren't going to change it's size, unless you want a cleaner looking pipe. If you want to stay with 2.25'' pipes you can just cut off the mufflers and resonators and put on magnaflows,x-pipe and new tips to save money because it's pointless to put new, same size pipes unless you want it for show like maybe Rollinls. If you want to run 2.5'' pipes, then you would get new pipes.

so ive been looking through the 1/4 mile numbers thread, lots of time slips. does anyone know offhand the quickest bolt on cars timeslip? obviously this would be without n2o,supercharger, or turbo. I would like to feel confident that we can keep with a a 300c hemi (non SRT-8) with boltons.. but maybe im wrong?

- mike

I would think that it would be a good race with a 300c hemi. They do have the cubic inch advantage by a lot. I guess it just depends what they have done under the hood. I would say stock against ls with cai and sct, no problem.

But they weigh 400#'s more, at least. They are FAT

Do larger pipes on the entire system make a difference in sound? I just want it to have a deep grumble, don't really care much about the most performance - especially if that just means some long shiny pipes.

So what would be my best route? The X pipe with magnaflows and new tips?
