I was looking at the Alpine IVA-W200 HU and was told by a Crutchfield rep that it's not compatible with my 2002 LS w/ factory Alpine HU.....Does anyone know anything about this? I really would love to get this double din 6.5" screen HU w/ all the toys. I have no clue why it wouldnt fit where the factory 6 disc is now...maybe too deep?? Anyone with audio expertise or someone who might have this unit in their LS. Maybe it would just need a custom mount?? Just anything would be great, thanks!

They told me the Pioneer Avic-Z1 wouldn't fit in my LS either. You will need to buy a radio bezel from an 03 up LS and use that to make it work. Team Ford has them.

It should fit fine but double check the size of the Z1 and the unit you want to make sure.

thanks for info...i checked both the units and they are identical in size 7"x4"x6.5" so it shouldnt be a problem......another question is why dont these units fit w/ original equipment? i guess im just imagining pulling out the factory unit and popping in the new one, but does the bezel basically act as a frame/mount? do you have any pics of yours? im hoping it's still flush or looks good with the rest of the center. Lastly, does it come in black? Team Ford didnt indicate the color. But bottom line you have to have a radio bezel for these units to fit properly, correct?? Thanks again!

You have to buy the bezel to make it fit. The bezel only comes in silver, you will have to paint it flat black to match. Very easy to do.

I'm not sure about the '00-'02 LSes, but on the '03-'06es, the bezel is the mount for the factory unit--it's the part that bolts to the supports behind the center stack.

At least, I'm fairly certain it is; I've only had it out once, and that was over a month ago. They probably say it won't fit because you'll need a complete, new custom bezel because of how the factory unit mates to the bezel, but there are plenty of folks with double-DIN units installed, so it can be done. It's just not necessarily a job for an amateur (it's not plug-and-play) because of the need for a custom bezel.

Or something like that. ;)

Use the navigation unit mounting kit to make it fit. I plan to put the same unit in my '00 LS very soon.

Hey buckeye good choice. I am having that unit installed in my 04 next saturday. This week I'll be getting all my pieces and adaptors ready (factory navi bezel, steering wheel control adaptor, video lockout bypas, and ipod connector). I am not installing the unit myself but wanted it to look factory so I am supplying the trim piece to my installer. It should be easy enough to do but I simply dont have the time or the space needed to do it. Also replacing the factory speakers with 6.5" alpine type s and powering them with the MRP-f450. In the back will be a 12" type R in a sealed box powered by an older alpine amp I still had from my last vehicle (MRV f757) putting out 300 watts rms. I'll post pics when it's all finished. I cant wait!

Anyone recommend the best place to buy online new? Someone with a personal experience cuz I know Crutch has it for $999 but that price was high compared to others I just dont want to get screwed but these other sites unless legit. Thanks!

n8,
Where did you get the factory Navi Bezel?? Local dealership or Team Ford as someone mentioned above?? and what all besides that did you need, like the trim piece wheres that from? i read about the steering wheel controls which seems awesome. im trying to make a list so when i take it for installation im not missing something for mounting or trim. I know about all the add-ons you can get for the actual unit, im just a moron when it comes to this stuff sometimes. Where did you get your head unit as well? Crutch has it for $999but ive seen it cheaper on other sites for like $765 new, wondering if thats reliable though?? Last question, that video bypass adaptor, is that for watching while car is in motion or is that too good to be true? Thanks! I cant wait to get this thing, my glove box is going to be filled with all the damn adaptors, ipod, etc.......ive read bad things about the BlueTooth like no caller ID and it sounds like you are a robot occasionally, that would suck for $200. I think this Alpine is the most attractive double din for the price, someone recommeded the Kenwood to me cuz the Navigation add-on is only $800 compared to the $1,600 for the Alpine, but I thought the graphics/background looked like crap on the Kenwood.

He bought it from me. I had ordered another one cause I thought I took too much off the first one but it ended up being fine.

As Vivid LS said I purchased the Navi Bezel (aka trim piece) from him. It is available from Team Ford as well.

As I mentioned I have not yet had the unit installed. Gathering parts this week and getting it put in on Saturday. I ordered the PAC SWI-ALP (steering wheel control adaptor), PAC TR-7 (video bypass) <-- yes this will allow you to watch video while the car is in motion but it is not legal to do so, and the Alpine KCE 422i full speed ipod adaptor from ebay. I have no intention of getting the bluetooth adaptor through the stereo. Just doesnt seem worth it to me. I may add navigation at a future date but I'm still undecided if I really want to spend the money. I would advise you to purchase from a local Alpine dealership if there is one in your area. That way there will be no problem getting it serviced if there should ever be a problem. My unit cost $879 from the local shop. I know you can get it cheaper online but I didnt think it was worth the risk. And I am having the shop do all my install since I dont have the space/time/tools to do it. Going to the local dealership to get the unit also gives you the opportunity to play with it for a bit to be sure it is what you want. They had 2 double din units, the Alpine and a Kenwood right next to it. I came in wanting the W200 and left feeling the same way. It is an awesome unit and I have always loved Alpine. If you want some more info on those adaptors from PAC see link:

Hope this helps. I will post pictures next week after all is installed.
