when you replace the radio with a store bought head unit, do you lose function of the audio buttons on the steering wheel? I would like to get a radio with a front aux port for an ipod or other device. I don't listen to cd's that much so i don't mind losing the changer.

I just gor my Kenwood done today..it woulda of been 300 more to hook up the head unit to the steering wheel buttons

Which HU did you get? I just had an eXcelon X592 put in on Monday.

Went with the DNX5120
My dealer gave me a full install including the Ipod connector for only 1200. Plus I really don't care for a 7" screen......so I just got the 6.1"

what kind of adapter would I need for the steering wheel controls from that PIE.net? I really don't understand pretty much anything on the website ???

call the company you who makes your head unit....some companies might have diffrent adapter connection....but I dunno....

Whatever floats your boat...I wanted to replace my gay ass TomTom Home and also be able to watch DVDs or my Ipod Movies.......plus all the sweet features and colors it comes with...and the speaker system has improved 3 times better....it's still stock speakers but the sound is much more clear and the control of your sound has WAY more options...it's a badass system....gotta love Kenwood

speaking of gay ass tom tom. can i get the stock gps/radio that came as an option with the car? i don't know a lot about radios. can it be done for under $500?

Hmm....I doubt my is the optional...cause it's a 2000LS so the 6 CD changer is in the glove box and the cassette player is in the dash (Well not anymore....

I have the Alpine system in my 02 LSE8. The sound is fine now, I just want to be able to use my MP3 player or something with it. Watch movies on my laptop with the sound of my Alpines going *drools*

Cool thing about the new Kenwoods is that they have a Headphone jack..in case you wanted to be privately watching something...

i found a few on ebay. there like $300 but you need to buy everything else, like map dvd, antenna, and other stuffs.

yeah...that sux...well i'm happy with my purchase...and just remember...you often get what you pay for.....

Thanks for the replies!!

For those that have replaced the factory head unit with a store bought one, how does it sound with the stock speakers? any improvement or degrade in the sound? i'm not interested in the whole screen on the radio, that would just make me want to watch it instead of drive.

i might just go with a splitter that will let me hook up my ipod and satellite radio to it. Sirius sent me antenna adapter but i don't think it uses the standard input connection (the little headphone looking jack) so it would only work with their unit.

I got the kenwood 5120, makek sure you get the extended warranty if its not too late, i just got mine back from the shop, it froze on my and i would have to shut off the car to reset it.

Dude you won't believe how much my kenwood makes the stock speakers. It's incredible, crisp and clear. Ipod connects quick and plays whatever you were last listening to. Options and controls are easy and if someone calls you it pauses your music til call ends....... Plus you can control more sound variations with the kenwood vs the stock system (such as balance, bass, and tremble)......it's good stuff

Check out the Company "SoundGate"

It is owned by Kicker (Stillwater Designs), the prices are very good, doesnt mess with any type of factory warrenties that you may have. They work directly with the manufactures to make this happen
