Adjusting my exhaust

Im doing my cut outs for my tips and one of my mufflers on the one side has always been off from the other. I wanna straighten it out and move both mufflers up a bit. I have the Magnaflow kit and Im not sure if the retainers or what have you that are on the hangers came with the exhaust or are the stock ones but they seem flimsy. Its almost as if I can line that one side up but something pushes it back to its original place. Now I thought I seen what seems to be better 'retainers' that aren't so elastic so to say and are a bit more hard rubber than the ones I have. Could this help hold them in place better?

Exhaust dudes, what can I do?

Is there anything or should I just have a shop do a better job of hanging it?

My Magna system liked to hang to one side and I used my stock LSE tips which ended up kinda low.

I did switch to a different hanger rubber that helped some...but them I think I turned them and stuck the hangers though different holes, or made new holes to get them up more.

For side to side I took some rubber hose and slid it onto the metal hanger rods and if I remember corectly used some tie straps to hold them in place.

This keeps the exhaust from settling back where it wants to and nice and straight.

Its just one side really, its like instead of the muffler laying straight across/horizontally it slants slightly. I seen it on other peoples cars here that have the complete cat back kit. I wonder why it does it. I just thought it was a sh*ty install.


I'll give different hanger rubbers a shot and if that dont help I am just gunna concentrate on new mufflers since I have been debating on them.
 
My exhaust shop made new "hooks" and welded them onto the mufflers to make them sit properly.
 
I dont think the problem is in the hooks. I think its the pipe further on down towards the cats. Like I said, I can push it over towards the center but something down that far in wants to push the rest of the pipe back out.

I can see the rubber dont sit flush cause like I said its kind of flimsy so what ever it is pushing the pipes on that side out is just twisting the rubber thingy.


I was checking out mufflers on Bassani's site and saw some pretty tough looking hanger rubber-things. I might give something like that a shot.
 
Anyone think maybe my pipe needs to be turned a bit down where it clamps to the cat? How ever Im sure that may help with it being a bit crooked and not so even I think that may make it want to push more out to the outside of the car.

This is also the passenger side.

While I was laying down cutting my bumper cut out on that side I got up and my keys fell out my pants pocket. Im parked about 4 feet away from a drainage grate and some how the f*ckers went right down the damn thing! I go and get a broom handle and some double sided tape which didnt help at all but I did manage to hit the alarm button n the key fob.:D



Some people across the lot are also moving out of the complex and two of the guys had to help me move the god damn thing to crawl in and get my keys:lol: Thats when I called it a day and went back to packing. I'll just hold off till I get everything in to the new house since I have some beat up barn style shed to work in:rolleyes:
 
The Magna system has a connection at the diff. You won't have to go up the the cat back connection to spin a muffler. Not that you could from there anyways, the X welded in would make that almost impossible. Also just cause one side is off doesn't mean you won't have to move both, the system is pretty rigid and moving one will move the other too. Although one may only need to be spun, I mean for side to side adjusting they will both move together.

You should be able to loosen it at the connection by the diff and wiggle it loose enough to get some spin. Get them both sitting right...then tighten.


I had mine on and off several times with my diff swap and several driveshaft adjustments after. The connections have relief cuts so they do come back apart with some work.

I was talking about twisting the pipe directly after the cat.
 
I got my magnaflow...it also didn't sit right but thankfully my buddy is a welder and we fixed the problem...though it turned a 1.5hr exhaust swap into a 6hr job......boy was i tired after that....
 
Aside from the welding how did you work it out?

Im wondering if maybe my rubber hanger on that side is just worn out?????
 
Bend the metal hanger that the rubber hanger is attached to up towards the car. That's the only way it will move. Trying to mess with the rubber hanger itself will do nothing.

Stick a pry bar into the exhaust tip and pull upwards. Should do the trick. Or you could loosen the nuts on the clamps, adjust the exhaust to where you want it and tighten them back down. Probably going to need two people for that last one, though.
 
I tried the pry bar but the rubber hanger seems to soft so it flexes along with the direction I pull it in. This side really is a lot more wobbly than the other. I honestly can move it around while the other side stays in lace.

Im gunna loosen the clamps and twist it. Then Im gunna jack the muffler up to where I want it and remove the rubber hanger and see if I can drill a hole into it to hold the muffler in place where I have it jacked up to.

If that dont work Im gunna use a entire roll of duct tape and a package of zip ties to hold t in place at the metal hangers:D .

Worked out just fine besides the fact that some of the plastic on underside of the bumper melted off because of the magnaflows being so far back. But I'm going to get some double wall tips instlled soon anyways.....

What did you do to adjust it before welding it in place?
 
If you're going to unbolt and jack the mufflers up, jack them a little higher than where you want them, as when you let everything free they will drop a bit more than anticipated. Something I've learned helping NickT88LSC do exhausts. :D

I adjust the catback so it was twisted a bit more so the Mufflers would be even. the Inlet pipes of the cat-back I had taken off..turned them a bit to cause a turn (which needed alot of trial and error) then welded them back on with a plasma cutter. It was tough since I didn't trust my buddy THAT much.....but still worked great. and it doesn't rub up against any it shouldn't be :/
 
You are the only person I've ever heard of that has welded with a plasma CUTTER.

Just think about that for a minute.

I got all that beat. I soldered mine in proper place today. Without flux! Hell yes b*tches! WITH-OUT-FLUX!

Yeah I just back at it again....It was a plasma welder....I don't know what the :q:q:q:q it was called..just it's his own welding tool that has this lil string thing that burns like a mother :q:q:q:qer (not to say I touched it but you can feel the heat when you are near it)

It fixes half of all problems.

You only need 2 tools in life. WD-40 and duct tape.

It it doesn't move and it should, use the WD-40.

If it moves and it shouldn't, use the duct tape
 
If it moves and it shouldnt use a plasma cutter to plasma cut it in place
