About to get some tunes from Torrie

recently got my xcal2. was curious how happy some of you were with your tunes from torrie. i have an 03' v8 with k&n cai. curious if anyone with a similar vehicle what kind of results you have had from your tune by torrie.. how much hp increase/mpg changes.


or if anyone suggest somewhere else to get a tune let me kno.
 
I have a 2004, still dialing in tune and shifting points due to my driving habits. The tune makes the fly by wire more responsive.

Can’t tell about gas mileage for I have my foot in it, not getting less mileage.

How much HP increase you would have to put the LS on a dyno, can feel better performance.

I had issues at first because of re-flash by dealer.

Can’t say enough about the great customer service from Torrie.

Don’t know your expectation, but HP cost $$$, the tune optimizes what you have.

I tried multiple times to contact Torrie with no response... luckilly I found ILLS.. had no problems getting a hold of him... Also did my tune for half the price

I'm a nice guy like that. Customer service is key and I always try to keep that in mind when taking care of my people.
 
I have an 04, and would very much like to hear what kind of difference it makes for you...please keep us posted.
 
must have been a bad week for him, left 2 email and a 2 voice mails... but overall I am glad things happened the way it did.
 
just an FYI - one thing to remember - Torrie went through a business name change to FastPartsNetwork.com (formally FordPartsNetwork.com) as Ford did a massive sweep to 'reclaim' all the internet similar names....

So many of our old posts use the 'old' contact info - the correct contact info is Torrie@fastpartsnetwork.com
 
DTX Check out sal @ PSP in port jeff, he's on bicycle path off of rt 112. Don't know where you live on LI but it can't be that far of a drive. Only thing is he is moving down to FL, and opening up a new shop down here. He should be open for another month or so, then once he has you in his system he can email tunes to you, but IMO I would go to him and get a true dyno tune. Also he was a lincoln tech for a long time, then he opened up his own performance shop, he only specialized in Fords, (until about 3 months ago cause GM guys were hounding him).
I don't have his # on me right now but his shops full name is Power surge performance.

I have the SCT Livewire tuner I bought from Jegs.
The power tune that came with it didn't work well and I didn't like the harder shifts.
I don't know how it is with the xcal2 but I just called SCT by phone and told them what I wanted. They emailed me a tune the next day.
After reflashing the PCM I was very pleased with the results.
The throttle response was much crisper requiring less pedal and the car certainly had more power.
Had to use 91 octane wheras before 89 was ok.
I'd say it gave me the advertized 14 hp for the LS.
If I want the firmer shifts I can select that using the tuner, but I like it stock.

The Xcal2 and Livewire share allot of similarities. Both use the same custom tuning files, and also can datalog, pull DTC codes, end use adjustability and so on. Where the Livewire differs is that it can actually show what it is logging on its own screen unlike the Xcal2 which needs to pass through log to a laptop. The Livewire also incorporates a G-Tech like function to allow rough 1/4 mile time estimates and so on.

For most people the Xcal2 is more than they will ever need. The Livewire just adds a few more bells and whistles that most will not take full advantage of for the price difference. But that is how it goes. Bigger, better, newer, faster... ;)

My Livewire just sits in the closet now.
All I used it for was to reflash the PCM.
SCT didn't charge me anything for the tune though.
I told them I wasn't happy with the stock powertune
program that came with it and if they couldn't supply me with something acceptable I was going to return the Livewire to Jegs.
I also have an Elmscan USB interface which is compatible with all the
PCM protocols and hooks up to a laptop.
There's a bunch of free programs such as Scantool, OBD2Spy, and others plus pay software such as ProScan, PCMScan, Digimoto which scan DTC's, clear codes, give real time readings and do logging, show if OBDII monitors are reading ready, do 1/4 mile times and speeds, simulated dyno pulls.
I've used these on my other ride-97 Camaro Supercharged LT-1 vert along with LT-1 Edit allows a lot of changes and is similar to what SCT would use to write a tune.
But on the Lincoln I'm happy with just reflashing the PCM and driving it.
 
Torrie tuned my 02 LS8. What a differance. Primarilary I wanted transmission tuning which we hammered out in a month. My trans is more like he one in my old police interceptor now. It holds gears, downshifts fast, and had the lockouts reduced a lot. The butt dyno shows a slight increase in power. The main thing I was happy (and surprised about) was the fuel mileage. I went from an average of 23.7 to 26.7 hand calculated. I am not saying your results will be the same, but it is the best money I have ever spent on a performance modification and will be the first thing I do to my future vehicles.
