98 mark viii rear neon light

What's up my beautiful people, had a quick question about the rear neon on my 98. The neon bar itself is flickering about three times before it just turns off completely upon start up(three flickers is all I get total) Any idea what this might be? There's no moisture in the lid, already been moisture proofed. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a weak ballast.

That's kind of what I was thinking, but I've also read that weak ballasts cause shifting of the light before actually going out, which hasn't happened.

I have a spare light bar assembly I'm wanting to try and convert over to LEDs also, but am having a hard time finding who sells the parts needed.
