what are the sizes of the speakers in the 93? The rears, fronts, and tweeters. I dont know if they all came with the jbl system in 93, but mine has it. I've read 5x7/6x8 universals, is that what I'd be looking for? Any other ideas would be great

exactly that 5x7/6x8, ford always had that size and for the tweeters 2 1/2 i beleive

thanks, getting the radio and paint done are the next two priorities, then i'll actually post a pic or two ha

Alright, I've looked around and read some stuff, but honestly I don't know a thing about car audio. I've got a friend that's really good and he'll install everything if I forget about a little cash he owes me, so that's covered. I'm willing to spend 500-600 and would would like to have a decent set up, I'm not trying to blow away the neighborhood, just something to sound pretty good in the car. I plan on gutting everything so I guess this is what I need

deck
4 speakers
amp (this is where I get REALLY lost)
tweeters, if its THAT important
a sub ( i was kinda leaning toward having 2, because I found this:) http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=520&i=158XSL104&tp=111
I'm going to search to find some good prices on the enclosures, wiring and etc on ebay and what not, but I just give up on this, if anyone has any ideas with model numbers or links thanks, or anywhere to find some good prices

I plan on ordering all of this before the end of the week so any links or anything is great, thanks

Hey rev...

To be honest, the amount you want to spend will not get you very much.

Your biggest single expenditure will be your amp; For the amount of money you want to spend, I'd say pick up a 5 channel.

I'll just throw some links and prices at ya:

Here's a good amp, it isn't the BEST amp, but it's good quality and a fair price. I'm running an older amp made by Autotek in my truck and it's a great value for dollar amp. 4x55w RMS / 1x220w RMS. The four smaller wattage channels are for your door and rear speakers. The larger one is your sub channel.

6.5" 2-way's. You could get 1-ways for cheaper, but the range of sound isn't nearly as good.

10" sub... You really only need one. Trust me on this...

SO... here we're looking at:
Amp:$359
2-way's:$218 ($119x2)
Sub:$149
Total: $726 (no head unit)

Run the 6.5"s off the head unit and you can get an amp for $169 ($536 total):

I'd steer clear of sony; their stuff is cheap, and over priced for what you get. Also, I'd think long and hard about how much you want to spend... What I just showed you are basically base line products; go much lower than that and it's almost not even worth the money. Keep in mind that you get what you pay for; a $50 pair of 6.5"s won't sound as good, and won't last as long (speakers do wear out). Also, speakers like power; they run cleaner and more efficiently when they are running on wattage within their range, this is why most that go with full aftermarket stereos run everything on an amp). And last but not least... If you can save up the money... throw in an in-dash double din flat panel!!! It will look so much better! Kenwood, pioneer and alpine all make em for between $450-$700ish.

btw... reason I listed 6.5"s is due to the fact that comparable 5x7"s usually run nearly twice as much. You can use 6.5"s, you just need an adaptor plate. This can be made yourself, or you can pick them up at best buy and the like; just go to the install shop and tell them what you need.

The website I gave those links to has pretty damn good prices, so look around. Just... be sure to ask questions in here before you buy; we'll get you headed in the right direction.

Oh, and one more thing... if you want a single DIN head unit, take a long hard look at Alpine and Clarion; JVC, Pioneer and Kenwood units in your price range... you can do much better. I have had great luck with Alpine and I've got a Clarion marine head unit in my boat... which I like very much.

yeah I agree... I have mostly sony products at home ie: tv, receiver, laptop... they're ok... but they stuggle when it comes to car audio... it's totally different electronics... alpines are great... clarions are sweet... kenwoods are my fav... they seam to have more fidelity for the price... I've had three kenwoods and never have been disappointed... and don't skimp out on the wires... don't have to go all crazy with monster but get something that's decent.

Thanks for the advice, I was planning on buying now thats why the low range, with everything you said I guess I'll just have to wait for my tax refund, at least that way I'll be happy with everything. I'm going to spend a long time looking later tonight and see if I can put a few ideas together.

Good call on wires... You'll have RCA's running from your preamp outputs on your head unit to your amp. This signal is an AC signal. This is important because alternating current has a tendency to cause magnetic induction. Basicly what happens is the alternating electrical charge creates an electric field around the wire. This allows interfearance. SO, long story short... spend the big bucks for sheilded RCA's; they are your single most important wire to be able to reproduce high quality sound. Speaker wires, you'll be fine with 18-16ga for your 6.5"s, but I'd run 12ga on your sub. Brand isn't really a big deal. Power wire for your amp, run 4ga; it's possible you could get away with 6ga, depending how long the run is and how many watts your amp puts out... but my policy is to stay on the safe side. Either way, get a mid-level quality wire for your power.

Consider installing a little sound deadening AT-LEAST in your trunk; it will stop the rattle you're bound to get, and it will increase the internal volume and crispness of your sound. Take a look at B-Quiet, it's good stuff, I've used a lot of it before, and it's not nearly as pricy as some others.
http://www.b-quiet.com/
I put three rolls of B-Quiet extreme in my truck; did the entire interior and doors (double thickness on roof and back wall; both the outer door skin and inner door skin). If you get two rolls, you should have enough to do your trunk and doors. I kid you not, run decent quality gear, and use some of this stuff and it will sound like a concert-hall in your car. Down side- two rolls will cost you $140 and weighs 30lbs.

Double DIN in-dish LCD's (search the net for best prices):
Alpine:http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=18425
Pioneer:http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=18688
Kenwood:http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=18472 (this seems to be the best price!)

Anyhow, don't forget to keep this thread updated; we're going to be interested to see the finished product! (I like installing stereo's, wish I could help!!)

my car would last 3 minutes in my driveway with one of those lcds. that sounds/look nice but realistically i'd get carjacked for that in my neighborhood, and once people find out i have that, i'd be toast. time to search the web for a good set up, thanks for everything so far i'll keep it updated, it'll all be ordered after taxes come in woohoo

hahaha... awe man!!! I think the dash of the Mark VIII just looks like it was intended to have an in-dash LCD! Oh well, suppose that's life right?

Just make sure whatever head unit you get has 3 preamp outputs (front, rear and sub); most decent quality units will, but just double check. You'll drop $20 ea for good line-level converters; so it'll be worth it.

this sub, i've heard it and boy does it bang

now the tricky part, i know sh!t about amps/wiring. Income taxes are in, cars getting painted this week and this is the next step. Can someone find an amp that could power this? and how about the wiring/harness and everything? Like I said I just need to get this stuff here so I can have a friend set it up ha.

Oh and I was using amazon as a reference because I just bought some books for school, I'd shop around for the lowest prices. I actually just saw an ebay auction for 2 of those subs for 229, that'd blow the street away though haha

You can install 6.5s without any problems!??
I didn't know that. I have adapter plates and 5.25"

my opinion on 4 speakers would be infinity 6x8's either kappa series or their refference series. if you sat in my buddies 93, he has a doo doo set up, but it sounds like a 5grand set up lol i am not joking, he has infinity 6x8's run by an alpine v-12 four channel amp, a pioneer deck, i put infinity 1 inch tweeters in the front door panels where the stock ones were, and he has dual 10 inch visonik subs in the trunk with a sony xplode 2 channel amp, its all mongoloid set up, all mixed matched, but i would take it anyday, i dont care about who made what, it sounds insane!! i prefer infinity speakers over all of the ones out there, but its just my opinion, we have over 15 grand of denon and infinity home theatre system, and it will blow the glass sliders off the back of the house. thats why i love infinity!!!!
