So what is the difference between a 93-95 alternator and 96-98 alternator. I’m looking at a hi amp rebuild kit for a ford 4g but a reference guide says I have a Mitsubishi..Im working with a 93. Will this work?

I think an extra 10 or 20 amps. Why do you need high output? These things pump out nice and for stock they are usually ample even with a pretty big sound system.

When my 93's alt went bad... I replaced it with a 2nd gen alt. The back is clocked differently so you have to tug on the harness a little to get some slack. put the plug on the alt FIRST, then snug the alternator down, because the plug gets pushed against the first intake runner tube and prevents you from taking it off or putting it on. My car liked it a lot better getting a few more amps from an updated alt.

10 amps and better reliability with the 96+ models.

Actually the Mitsubishi alternator are a more durable design and put out more at idle. They are very hard to rebuild though so most remans are crap...

You'd have to ask a rebuilder. I'm passing on info told to me by a few of the senoir Ford techs here and my local rebuilder. I should have added that originally sorry...

I bolted an alternator from a 97 into my 94. Just like stangman said, the hookup is a bit different, but there are NO modifications needed to make it work.
