Hi, I am new owner of a Lincoln for the first time, and I am trying to fix some issues on the car: (Lincoln Mark VIII LSC 1995)

1) Overdrive is not working i.e it is always on, how do I check what to do? Computer issue or?
Solution:
Theres a great write up here that I followed step by step on how to replace the overdrive cable and button. The cable is broken its almost guaranteed !
OR
It could be a wire from the shift handle to the button, check that wire first.

2) Fan only blows heat on all settings, anyone know how to fix this?
Solution:?

3) I want to lower my Mark VIII, is that possible on the Air suspension? If yes, how?
Solution: Lot of info here how to, like here:
http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/tech/lincoln-mark-viii/Sensor-Lowering/index.htm

Is it common that the air bags will leak when lowering the suspension?
Answer:

4) The Cruise Control is not working, how can I fix it?
Solution: Fuse?

5) Will I gain better fuel economy if I replace the plastic Air intake with a circular K/N air filter or is it enough to replace the std paper air filter in the plastic Air intake with a K/N filter?
Solution: Using a Cone filter (CIA) you really won't notice much difference. They will draw in more heat from engine without some kind of enclosure. If you want a K/N filter just put in a flat K/N that will fit the stock air intake box.
I will go for a good flat K/N.

Will removing the Cat in both sides and replace the silencers with more open ones, also give a better economy? Is it necessary to have a X exhaust? Ok to have 2 pipes all-the-way? It is okay here to have no X pipe (no laws against it)
Solution: ?

6) When going from P to D it hesitates and then it kicks in, it that normal? I also noticed that when driving normally and then give it ful throtle, the kick-down hesitates a little bit and then it goes! Is this normal for these automatic transmissions in the Mark VIII or?
- can this be the Manual Lever Position Sensor? If so, where is it located? Is it diff to replace?
Solution: Could be the MLP sensor but it's an easy replacement. Located on the driver's side of the tranny. Can be done with out taking anything off the car

7) What auto does the Mark VIII LSC have? C6 or?
Answer: ?

8) Can I make the headlights more clear, is it okay to polish them with a 1000 paper or similar?
Solution: Sand paper etc will be fine.

Thanks, I appreciate your help!

I answered your lowering ? in the other post where you asked. You need to learn to use the search function on this site.
1) could be trans itself or you could just have OD shut off from the switch on shifter.
2) can't really tell what you mean.
3)I added info on other post
4)gotta start with fuses then go from there
5)Alotta peeps run a CIA on there cars. I setup a ram air setup on mine
6)You might have trans problems with all the stuff you mention
7)4R70W
8)Yes sand and polish

does the heat only come out the defrost?
if so, there is a cracked vacuum line somewhere.

A+ thread. A lot of new information here. Will read again.

that keeps you from turning it off, not turning it on.

Thanks guys.
This is a great forum.

I did update my thread and will try to gather all good solutions for others that might gain from this discussion.
We just need a little more info to capture all good advice's on these topics.

In my car, I cant turn the Overdrive off, so maybe it is this cable, I will have to check it out.

Its not a cable. Its the wiring going to the button on the shift handle.

Dude are you an American in Iceland or are you an Icelandic dude? Would be cool talking to an Icelander. LOL

Sorry for the short answers that I laid out. I was filling my face and just wanted to get couple things shot out there. Like mostly the SEARCH function. You need to check out all MK8 sites. LOD,mark8.org are other good ones to add to knowledge base.

Not sure if it's the MLP but it's an easy replacement. Located on the driver's side of the tranny. Can be done with out taking anything off the car.

This won't make them light up the road any better. You need to replace the reflective material on the back of the headlights. Then polish them clean. Just polishing them will only make them look nicer.

Ok, not the cable :) The wire going from the shift handle down to button? Do I open from above or beneath the car?

I am an "Icelandair" and yes live in Iceland, Reykjavik. Cool talking to you as well :D
I did try to register on the mark8.org, but have not received any confirmation e-mail yet....3 days ago.
What other sites are there?
Thanks ;)

2) Fan only blows heat on all settings, anyone know how to fix this?
Solution:?
i would start by check all your vacuum lines on top of engine and near the firewall. most likely the culprit.

Ok thanks, I will check the vacuum pipes, but what is a "culprit?" ;)
But is it true, that in this car, there is a "Air mixer unit" that could cause this problem? Should be located on the drivers side under the dashboard somewhere.. .

Thanks, very useful info, as I know on many cars replacing the air intake will not give much, like you wrote on the Mark VIII. But again on some cars this will give a lot.

Ok, I do however think in my case the hesitation is caused be a bad "joint" on the drive shaft, (I hope....)

Yes I was just referring to make them look nicer, they light up the road just fine.

Well experts and Lincoln-friends, thanks again for all your replays, but does no one have anything to say about the exhaust?
I am planning to replace the silencers with a couple of turbo-trust etc. open silencers and remove the cat (by the way, how many cats. are there in this car?).
Will it not make a difference in fuel economy and maybe a little more power (along with a good K/N air filter)?
This X-pipe in the exhaust, is that necessary?

Velkominn til LVC. ÉG can't trúa there ert Skytta VIII's í Ísland. Sumir hagnýtur ráð. Gera eins og mikill rannsókn á the staður eins og þú geta. Allt þinn ert asking óður í hefur been ræða.

As for no AC you just might have a leak and no R-134A in the system. Common for cars this old to have leaked out R134a. You need to turn on AC and check if AC compressor clutch is turning on. You can also buy a can of R134a at parts store that has a gauge on it which will tell you if your system is full or empty.
